In my younger years, as mentioned by another poster, I remember watching SCTV on late night reruns and thinking it was the funniest thing there was, especially Great White North with Bob and Doug McKenzie. O'Hara would do Brooke Shields and Katherine Hepburn. SCTV was just so different, low budget, and funny for me back then.

Martin Short

I used to say, "Dewey Decimal System," when guessing random stuff because of Catherine O'Hara in this sketch. Also, the Rick Moranis "I can go fix that" and Flaherty's, "I might be wrong, and correct me if I am.."





A lot of O'Hara in this one with Moranis jumping the punchline a few times is so funny.

That was a great watch. Her ability to keep a straight face while he was sitting there riffing was pretty amazing - and there was no rehearsal because he just flew in that day to do the scenes as a favor.

The documentary also had a clip of Candy talking about how they couldn't do topical humor on SCTV because they never when they were going to air. That might've had something to do with why it was still funny for those of us watching it later in reruns, since I guess it gave them more freedom to do weird or abstract humor that wasn't tied to the events of the week.

*Sidenote: loved Norm's interactions w/ Catherine and w/ Eugene Levy when he hosted the Canadian Screen Awards

This movie is total crap but Catherine O'Haras reaction RIGHT at the beginning is hilarious…..it's when her character discovers nude pictures she had taken end up on the Internet on her son's computer….

You can literally quit watching after about 5 seconds good grief the rest of this movie is terrible….

I think in one of those movies, Michael McKean and his wife wrote a song for O'Hara and Levy that was nominated for an Academy Award. A great, sad song that was written and performed by improv comedians turned out so well is amazing. In the movie, McKean goes, "I know this song"

I have been a huge O'Hara fan, and consider her role as Moira Rose to be her magnum opus.

I first saw O'Hara during her SCTV days. I was a huge fan of that cast, whom most Americans had not yet been introduced. Candy, Levy, Short, Flaherty, Dave Thomas, Martin, et al.

I consider her to be one of the all time great comedic actresses.

I forget that Eugene Levy worked with her for 50 YEARS. They were so iconic in *****t's Creek, but that only came together because they had been doing it for years.

There aren't many actresses still working in their 70s.

She had a MUCH sharper edge than all the rest. And by all accounts, was also a perfectly nice person offscreen without the same edge.

You should watch that recent documentary on John Candy. She played a large part in that early stuff as well. Some good old footage. And some interviews with her from fairly recently.

Doctor, question that's always bothered me and a lot of people: Mayflower, combined with Philadelphia - a no-brainer, right? Cause this is where the Mayflower landed. Not so. It turns out Columbus actually set foot somewhere down in the West Indies. Little known fact.
