Ana de Armas is completely distracting

She is in the same square as Alice!

As of this past weekend, here's what I've been told...

- DiCaprio is playing Chris (Val Kilmer's character).

- Bale is playing Vincent (Al Pacino's character).

- Story-wise, the "sequel" timeline begins literally the next day, after the first movie ended.

- The "prequel" timeline is still being cast.

- "Soon" means September, which is when filming actually kicks off.

I feel like I've been living under a rock just now hearing there is a sequel (or prequel)!
IMO, has the best shootout sequence ever filmed...and this is without any soundtrack in the background.
Amazing cast and movie!

Same.

I just happened to catch this on TV the other day, and watched the whole thing. There are some 90s cheesy parts to it (especially the saxophone backtrack throughout), but it holds up really well.

I had no idea they were making Heat 2. I'm in!

Uhhmmmm, I'm sorry, but there are exactly ZERO "cheesy parts" in Heat.

Ha!

The movie is awesome...one of my favorites, but it has some 90s cheese in some parts.

Bring back Jon Voight!

Must underrated role of his career, IMO

Saxophone and any jazz horns playing the background is not 90's, that score style goes back to the 40's with classic Hollywood Noir films.

I will continue to recommend the novel Heat 2, co-written with Michael Mann and Texas author Meg Gardiner. The characteristics from Heat carry over nicely. And there is a truly sinister villain in the prequel part, almost Anton Chigurh level.

Heat came out in 1995... I'm surprised DiCaprio would touch anything that's over 25 yrs old

Just Pacino's constant awkward gum smacking and weird outbursts...but then after learning, in another thread, that he was supposed to be coked up in the movie, it actually fits pretty well.

I was kind of hoping this would be set in LA again, or maybe somewhere like Miami. Those places are super film photogenic imo, and don't feel too claustrophobic....the types of places where Michael Mann's cinematography and style shine imo. I am sure he will work his magic in Chicago though, with cool looking aeriels etc.

Can't wait for this, hopefully he still has his mojo...this cast is insane.

I have always been curious as to how Michael Mann operates...he seems to find a way to capture the coolest off-the-beaten-path parts of a city...the most captivating shots. He will find mundane dime a dozen small retail centers, but find the perfect angle and/or backdrop to make them look cool or exciting. I am wondering if he started off as a photographer. Almost like he goes to a city he is going to shoot in and just takes several weeks to drive around solo and explore it in its entirey or something...making a list all along of where he's going to shoot.

I'm aware the Sax has been around a while.

But the 90s movies, especially cop movies, had a sax riff that was part and parcel to the time. Re-watch something like Lethal Weapon, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, that stuck out to me as well when I re-watched it.

I didnt know that about his character. That makes some of his mannerisms and deliveries make a little more sense.

Again...one of my favorite movies. No complaints....just discussing the movie as it is.

(I love the Lethal Weapon movies as well)

Totally agree. Mann does a great job of turning the city into a character on a lot of his films. Heat, Miami Vice, and Collateral for sure

Heat 2 (the book) is set in a number of places, not just Chicago.

That's not cheesy....annoying to you, maybe....but not cheesy.

Didn't want to get Kilmer's son to play that role?

Pacino claims to have never tried coke. I think his performance would have been better if he had, it's too over the top even for a cokehead.

It's like when someone tries to act drunk over the top it doesn't work. It only works when you are acting like you're not drunk when you really are that it becomes believable.
