The bolded part has me stumped. How does that work out to them breaking up? It seems like they have worked it out one more time than they didn't.

Says she's had enough of me
I've had enough of her too
I might as well go on and set her free
She's already turned me loose

No fault, no blame, nobody done no wrong
That's just the way it sometimes goes
Sometimes two people just don't get along
It's time to hit the road

[Chorus]
Goodbye, farewell, so long
Vaya con Dios, good luck
Wish you well, take it slow
Easy come girl, easy go

We tried to work it out a hundred times
Ninety-nine it didn't work

I think it's best we put it all behind
Before we wind up getting hurt

No hard feelings darling, no regrets
No tears and no broken hearts
Call it quits, calling off all bets
It just wasn't in the cards

Step1: 99th time it didn't work
Step 2: They get back together
Step 3: Song just before the end of the 100th time it didn't work
Step 4: Profit from song

OP, I'd advise you to steer clear of the loathed tune from notable rock country villain James William Buffett in which he asserts it is acceptable to imbibe at any hour of the day because -- the world being round such as it is -- somewhere on earth, time is greater than or equal to 5:00 PM.

I feel like this is relevant here...

Agreed. They are currently on the 100th try and he's saying "might as well give it up".

What do you have against Buffett?

That song isn't great but it's really more of an Alan Jackson song anyway. Jimmy just sings a couple lines on it.

It's not complicated. The 99/100 is not literal. It's just hyperbole.

Just a simple song about a couple that has great sex but the arguing and fighting finally outweighs the only thing they really do together well.

It's also instructional. The kind tone and supportive nature of the lyrics leaves the door open to future, meaningless, hook ups, as needed.

Chris Farley: I think we got time for one more question. Remember when you were in the Beatles and you did that album Abbey Road and at the very end of the song, it went: 'And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make'. You remember that?
Paul McCartney: Yes.
Chris Farley: Um, is that true?

Easy come, easy go?

If you've tried to work it out a 100 times and 99 times it didn't work…nothing about this sounds easy.

"Easy Come, Easy Go" was my stage name at Hardbodies back in the day.

Could also be 100 different women during a tour and he was too high/drunk to notice

Hot damn that was comedic perfection. Wife and I love his stuff but I haven't seen this one.

When I first saw that guy I assumed he was just some city or suburban hipster doing a shtick…then found out he's a certified Deep South working class redneck.

Absolutely one of the funniest skits ever on SNL.

I still stutter like Farley whenever I begin a sentence with "Remember when ..."

Nobody gets it but it makes me laugh.

while we're discussing nonsensical song lyrics...this one has always bugged me:

Quote:

Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is
He ain't gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his livin' off of the people's taxes
Bobbie Sue, whoa, whoa, she slipped away
Billy Joe caught up to her the very next day
They got the money, hey, you know they got away
They headed down south and they're still running today

setting aside the atrocious rhyming scheme for second. Billy Mack, did in fact, let those two escape justice.

Yeah, gettin' by on gettin' by is my stock-in-trade
Living it day-to-day, picking up the pieces wherever they fall
Just lettin' it roll, lettin' the high times carry the low
Just living my life easy come, easy go

I thought the OP was talking about the great LA GUNS

Baby lives in a trailer park only comes out after dark
Hates her mom, hates the old man
Don't like livin' in a caravan
Oh taxi cab
It ain't nice for girls to grab
She's leaving town on a Greyhound bus

Doing time for your baby (Sleazy come, easy go)
Doing time for your man (Sleazy come, easy go)
Anyway you can

New York City, Hollywood
Just like she always knew she would
She's riding high, she's playing the game
Moving fast as a hurricane
Oh taxi cab
It ain't nice for girls to grab
Don't make a sound, don't make a fuss

Doing time for your baby (sleazy come, easy go)
Doing time for your man (sleazy come, easy go)
Anyway you can

Private plane, crystal queen
Best Peruvian you've ever seen
Lady luck took a dive
She's in the stir, doing 3 to 5
Oh, where's that cab - I told you it ain't nice for girls to grab
She's leaving town on a Greyhound bus

Doing time for your baby (Sleazy come, easy go)
Doing time for your man (Sleazy come, easy go)
Anyway you can
