Just watched 2 seasons of The Thaw (Max) and enjoyed this Norwegian series.

Southland was really good. There was something similar recently about a female cop training a young guy and I thought it was pretty good as well. Also based on LA and on one of the main streaming services but can't recall.

Dept Q is a Scottish cop show and is pretty good. Planning on finishing it tonight.

Yeah, its a shame Southland didn't get a longer run. Excellent show.

If you have never watched NYPD Blue, it's on Hulu and set the bar door this genre imo. I've rewatched the first few seasons with David Caruso several times and it's still great. The Jimmy Smits years were really good too, started to run out of steam a bit the last few seasons when they brought in Ricky Schroeder and Mark Paul Goselaar although I thought the latter was decent.

NYPD blue is my all time favorite cop show. I've probably run through it 6-7 times after original viewing. I actually think the Smits years were the strongest.

Loved Mare of Easttown.

Started Luther last night and like it so far but keep the suggestions coming!

Holder is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. "Anybody tell you that you're white?" was one of the best lines of the show.

FYI, Forbrydelsen is the name of the original Danish series that the US show was based on. I haven't seen it, but a lot of people say it's better.

Not unknown by any stretch, but Homicide: Life on the Streets is greatness.

If you're including Dept Q there's a good number of overseas crime shows to consider.

Slow Horses
Sherlock
Broadchurch
Top of the Lake
The Fall
Luther
Ripper Street
Collateral

For some reason I just couldn't connect with Homicide or Law and Order. Tried a few eps of each.
The System

The Shield (early 2000s on FX)
or
The Wire (early 2000s on HBO)

Both are phenomenal but The Wire is my favorite.

Justified is also a fun watch, albeit a bit unrealistic.
The Original Houston 1836

The Shield is my favorite drama of all-time.
Vic Mackey on the anti-hero Mount Rushmore.

And it's early fantastic Walton Goggins.

If you need convincing - watch

Will always say Criminal Minds.
But it is the FBI/BAU.

Seen both. Liked both. I however do not bow down to the Wire like a lot of people. Good show..Just not an all timer for me.

In addition to the old school Hill Street Blues mentioned, NYPD Blue was pretty strong.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Southland was criminally underrated imo. Loved that show. This is one of my all time fav TV show characters…

Regina King was nails too. Might have to rewatch this show. I'm a sucker for cop/crime shows set in LA though. Bosch another good one.

We could start with the body count. Most US Marshals have never even fired their weapon in the line of duty. Good ol Marshal Givens racks up close to 40 on the body count throughout the series.
Then there's Boyd Crowder running around with bazookas in the hollers of Kentucky.
It's an awesome show, but it's entertainment not realism.
