Agree, they are fun books. But they are basically spin off of the first four.

I hope this next film gets into more of the Bene Gesserit skills. The whole storyline revolves around what they have set in motion.

I would guess DV's film will be EXTREMELY different from the book, which I'm happy about. I wasn't really that impressed with Dune, the book, and much preferred DV's adaptation. DV has also not let me down yet, over the last 6-7 movies, or so. I'll be there, opening weekend.

Since when was this a spoiler thread? This was just the discussion thread about Dune Part 3 before they decided to title it Dune Part 3.

for sure, Messiah was written by Frank but part 3 is partially produced by his son so that means that complete non-Frank material may be inserted into the plot.

If you've followed any of the material written by his son, it's 180 degrees different in tone and greatness that made Dune what it is.

I'm hoping Brian Herbert is not allowed to interject the crap he wrote meant to bridge the gap between the end of Dune and Dune Messiah.

In my opinion read all 6 of Frank Herbert's novels. The last 2 books are the best arc.

Children of Dune is good, similar level as Dune and Messiah. I haven't read beyond it. Based on what I've seen so far from this movie I have my doubts it contains much from Children if that affects your decision.

I read Dune Messiah through Chapterhouse Dune earlier this year. I rank all of Herbert's Dune as among the best science fiction books ever written. Children of Dune was probably my favorite, but the last two felt much more impactful. And God Emperor of Dune, while a bit weird, was not at all the slog I expected it to be. It is the bridge between the first half and second half of Herbert's story.

For the purposes of the new movie, I am not seeing anything in the trailers that leads me to believe there is anything from Children of Dune other than possibly some prophecy visions of the future.
