I posted on nerdery but got zip. This is all about consuming entertainment so I thought I'd post here.

Looks like I can get Hulu content w/ ads plus Disney+ content w/ ads plus all the Live TV (that I get with YouTube) for about as much as I pay for Youtube. YouTube has no streaming content obviously.

I used to have Hulu, but it was bad as far as the DVR/replay, etc for sports. So I switched to YouTube about 7 years ago.

Is Hulu OK now? Why would I not switch?

Thanks for any feedback!

We have Peacock (limited ads plan), Prime Video (benefit of membership), and PBS Kids (a Prime channel).

View through phones and also a large FireTV.

Edit: supplement with DVDs (personal and public library)

I have Hulu+Live TV with ESPN+ and Disney+ which I think is no longer an available package.

But as for Hulu+Live TV I love it. Had it for 6 years now.

I don't use any DVR function so that doesn't concern me. It seems to work the few times Ive' used it for my wife when she needed something recorded.

I only use it for Live Sports and it has everything I want or can get locally and national networks. Does not have KFAA in Dallas yet which carries Mavs games but all of the local sports stuff has gone to some streaming platform anyway. I only watch sports live and never recorded so not an issue for me.

I do love that I get Hulu original content included and you are correct about it being comparable privce to YT TV but they have no original content.

I only watch live sports and use streaming services for other shows and content (no traditional network TV).

Ok sure technically you have some but only NBC stuff. That's not what having Live Sports means. It's not having SOME it is having ALL or nearly all.

Sure you get EPL and Olympics and Notre Dame. And you get one NFL game per week usually. And not a single A&M football game. So. Blech.

There is also WWE Saturday Night Main Event, Olympics, NFL, various major sports, and today the Super Bowl can be streamed at no cost (Tubi, 4K available).

In addition, we have access to Premier League, other WWE programming,Golf, Rugby, NFL programming, Big Ten Football

We decided to leave cable for emerging options in 2011, well before the current trend of doing so accelerated.

I'll repost my response here, you butthole.

Hulu Live TV sucks compared to YTTV. We got tired of fighting the Hulu UI so we switched a few months ago. Here a few annoying Hulu examples I can recall:

Hulu doesn't have multi-cast for sports. YTTV does.

YTTV has live scores and Fantasy Football stats baked into games as a side bar feature.

The Hulu interface doesn't work the same on all platforms. YTTV is the same experience on every platform I've tried.

Can't scan the Hulu guide or other channel content without completely leaving the current program. In effect, each screen in Hulu is silo'ed whereas with YTTV you can navigate while having your current program on behind the UI overlays.

Hulu UI algos would never serve up content I would expect to see like YTTV does. The latter is much better at showing you stuff you care about. Ex: tell me there is an A&M basketball game airing today. I had to search for it in Hulu or navigate several clicks to get to it.

There are other issues I'm forgetting about.

The only advantage that Hulu has is that Hulu Live comes with the Hulu catalog of old content. If it is a priority of yours to watch old Golden Girls episodes (fantastic show FTR) then I would weight this criteria higher in your decision. If it's not, then it's irrelevant and YTTV is the clear winner.

Hulu changed their DVR a few years ago so you can now FF thru commercials. Crazy that they didn't start that way. I only watch live TV for college football, didn't like how the YTTV DVR spanned times when games ran long so I gave Hulu a try. I've had it for the past 2 seasons and like it. When I cancel, they offer me regular Hulu for $3/mo. (I only subscribe during the CFB season)

Most of that is way off base. I have no problems with the Hulu UI and I tried YT as well and prefer Hulu. To each his own. And the interface is the same to me whether it is Roku or my laptop or my phone other than touching the screen vs using a mouse or remote. so I'm not sure what you are referring to. Maybe it is different on smart TVs I have no idea as I only use Roku's or laptop or phone. Personally I don't give a crap about scores or fantasy stats in fact it annoys me. Again to each his own.

And the "old" catalog is not at all a plus in my book. But the original content is. They've made some fantastic shows, mini series and movies too.

I also have Hulu Live and we've never had an issue with it. The only thing I wish it had was the multicast for sports. The UI isn't an issue and you can also absolutely scan the guide with the live tv going behind it. We did get in with Live+Disney+ESPN package we have access to damn near everything we'd watch.

It's literally not off base. That was my exact experience.

Well you're wrong about the guide screen and I've been with them for 6 years so I don't know what to tell you. I understand you simply don't like it but there are other opinions.

I'm not wrong. That's how it worked on our Samsung so I don't know what to tell you either. Maybe they've improved it in the last 3 or so months we've been gone. I don't know.

Although my details here have been buried, especially under the weight of massive block quotes (why not just use the reply feature), I do need to reiterate:

Last night we watched the game on Tubi, with FireTV, and it was very smooth. Peacock does have live sports, and with other minimal or no cost options, our decision (well over a decade ago) to end a cable bundle (Directv) was and remains more than justified.

Edit: Prime Video membership (Amazon, wish list dates to 2003) also affords channels, such as, at present, PBS Kids - minimal cost.

I posted this question in The Nerdery a few months ago and the feedback I got was that Hulu was trash when it came to Live TV. Someone mentioned that Hulu's live TV interface was designed very poorly.

I went with YouTube Live TV and it's been great. However, with baseball season about to start, I'm probably going to switch to Fubo because they have Space City Home Network and that the main place to watch the Astros.

YTTV for quad screen live sports is my favorite thing in the world. It may exist elsewhere, IDK.
