Just found "Say Nothing" on Hulu, about the IRA in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. I just finished the first episode, and it is very gripping. Best start to a series I have seen in a long time.

I saw the trailer yesterday and plan to check it out. It's a subject that I admittedly don't have a ton of knowledge on, but have always wanted to learn more about.

This would look to be the series for that. It began with the standard "based on a true story", so I would think some of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. There have already been a couple people with names I recognized, like Gerry Adams.

The main character is Dolours Price, most everything seems to be told from her point of view. She is not someone I'm familiar with. She appears to have been pretty deep in the IRA and may have done a lot of bad things.

Series is based on a book of the same name.

Check out "The Troubles" podcast. I've been listening for a couple years and it has taught me so much. Can't recommend it enough.

Went with my parents to visit relatives in Belfast back in 1991, was interesting seeing all the Bobby Sands murals, soldiers with machine guns, armored vehicles rolling around.

Crossing from Nothern Ireland into Ireland, the security, burned out van in the middle of the road, etc.

Relatives said not to take pictures of certain things due to the troubles and to stay out of Protestant neighborhood which were easily identified by the color of the street lamps. We got followed by an armored vehicle for a while until the figured out we were lost…ha, gave us an armed escort back to the relatives house. Fortunately we had driven from Germany and taken the Ferry so my parents corolla didn't pose much of a threat. The USA sticker probably helped.

Doesn't start until Season 3.

I added this one to my list from TCTTS post about all the great stuff coming out this month. Still finishing Old Man first though.

I gotta say I know about nothing about the Troubles. Not sure why, but looking forward to it!

If you enjoy the show, the book by Patrick Radden Keefe is fantastic. Very engrossing and one of the best books I've ever read.

The book was excellent at laying out a lot of the history and players in the conflict

I'm up through I think episode 7. Later episodes are not as engrossing and the first episode, but I have still found it to be a good series.

Those looking for a detailed history of The Troubles may be happier with the book the series is based on. The series focuses mostly on Dolours Price and her sister. I think the book encompasses a wider history.

The series does depict Dolours Price doing many bad things, but I feel it tends to whitewash her history as a terrorist. Obviously there will be many different takes on this.
