Text after the movie said Army higher ups were reprimanded for the decision.
https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2010/02/army_releases_report_on_combat.phpHere's the executive summary of the US Army investigation (no details on consequences) for those who are interested. Four would be reprimanded IIRC, Of note in there, is the lack of ISR for COP Keating that was diverted for a "missing" soldier, which was PFC Bergdahl.
ISR, for those who may be unfamiliar, is the assets needed to see and understand the battlespace and something America is insanely good at and our ultimate edge in warfare. Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The "eye in the sky" if you will and others.
This is COP Keating. What an unbelievably bad tactical position with a mere platoon to hold it. Especially with limited ISR assets. There is cockpit footage of the responding Apache support floating around out there somewhere and it is extremely sobering.
Afghanistan was such a ****show.
