Introduced to Piranha Records from a coworker. On November 11th, Derek Riggs -creator of Iron Maiden covers and mascot "Eddie" will be in store from 2-8 to chill and hangout.

They have a massive DJ Screw collection in their store. As a Houstonian trapped in North Austin, I thought this was badass. It's a semi-head shop establishment as well, so that's cool.

My next favorite place is Waterloo records in Austin.

How about you TexAgs? What's your favorite record store? I feel like this establishment and hangout is on the rise again and I'm here for it.

In Dallas the flagship has to be Josey Records. Huge selection as they are a big box record store. I also like Spinster in N Oak Cliff. Small store but I always seem to find something in there. Also really like Doc's over in Ft Worth

And they've got a new second location on the way.

Also Good Records and Dead Wax are solid.

NTX Vinyl is a great little record store.

Located in Painted Tree markets in Highland Village, North Richland Hills, and Frisco.

What I like about it is not overwhelming like Josey Records.

Garland will be their 3rd DFW location.

NTX closed all 3 Painted Tree locations. He's only selling on his website and through the Whatnot app now.

Now that I have some time, I'll post my complete thoughts. Lol.

Good Records- Owned by fellow Aggie Chris Penn and Tripping Daisy's Tim DeLaughter. Not a big fan of the current location but CP is a quality human being so I try to support as much as possible. Pretty much nothing but new records but I always seem to find something there.

Josey Records- I only go to the Dallas location but it's huge and has a ton of great stuff. They also bought all the stock from the old Bill's Records so there's a ton of rare stuff. In the early days I got some ridiculous deals there but 10 years in that's not the case so much anymore. What I love about here is that they have about 4 or 5 turntables for you to check out any used record in the store.

Doc's- Another of my favorite stops. I always walk out with a handful of stuff. Pretty good blues section, which I love.

Panther City- Small location but you can usually find some gems there. One of the owners painted the cover for the Toadies Rubberneck and it's hanging in the store. Pretty cool piece of local music history.

Born Late- Owned by drummer Henry Vasquez. Because he tours overseas a lot he has a ton of imports/rare stuff. Small space loaded to the gills with merch. A lot of their stock is unofficial pressings but if you don't mind those then this is a fun place to visit.

Recycled Books- A couple times a year I'll make the drive up to Denton. For a book store they have a large selection of vinyl and IMO the prices are very fair.

Forever Young- I always tell people if there's something specific that you want and don't mind paying for it, go here. Not a great place for digging for deals and I absolutely HATE the way the store is organized. They break it down by genre but inside each section they have it separated by decade which is dumb because most bands cover multiple decades.

NTX Vinyl- Like I said above they closed their brick & mortar spots but still have a big presence online. The owner GI Sanders knows his **** inside & out. I've gotten a lot of great stuff from him.

Dead Wax- A small record store in downtown Carrollton. Only been there once and wasn't impressed but I did pick up a couple hard to find 45's when I was there.

CD Warehouse- They're over by UTA. Small spot but they have a very good metal section.

NOTE: This is only DFW area stores.

Pretty cool story here I might have told before in the guitar thread but-I went by Bill's Records in September 2019 as I was staying at the Canvas hotel next to it and going to see one of my favorite band's (olospo) for two nights at Poor David's Pub next door.

It was at 3 pm and I tried opening the door to Bill's and it was locked. I stood there for about a minute and suddenly Bill comes to the door and I tell him about the time he showed me his Ben Harper skateboard guitar in 2003 that Ben gifted to him and how I got one shortly after when they were to put a run of 1,000 limited edition out but ended up only making 27 of them and of various prototypes.

Bill had just had a recent fall on his face and was in bad shape but he invited me inside and it turned into just he and I talking for two hours straight and him just showing me all kinds of things around the store and watching Ben Harper live performances. He owned this tongue drum that Ben gave him as well that was used on "Blessed to Be a Witness". One of the coolest pieces of memorabilia I've ever seen.

I left the store after smelling like a carton of cigs and he hugged me on the way out and said God had brought us together that day. Flash forward a few weeks and I go see Ben Harper in Tulsa at Cain's and got him to sign my skateboard guitar behind the venue and we briefly talked about Bill and his fall and all that.

I asked Jeff K if it was possible to acquire anything from Bill's and he informed me Josey Records has the vault. I contacted someone at the store dying to get my hands on that tongue drum but to no avail. I don't even know who has it or where it is but I would kill to own it. The people that made it for Ben make some killer percussion furniture as well.

If you have any connections please find me this drum!!

Did you ever used to go to CD World on Greenville back in the day? I worked there with the owner of Dead Wax.

Honestly, I ****ed hated Bill. He was a gigantic dick and the place reeked of cigarettes. The couple times I was there nothing was priced and he seemed annoyed if you asked him how much something was. Then again, I wasn't one of the pretty boys he gave deals too.

Yes that one. It was a pretty sweet gig although I was an lolpoor doing it. Got free tickets to every show at Granada so many times I'd just close down the store and walk down the street to check out whoever I wanted to.

Discovered many of good bands I'd never heard of at the time that way.

I always got the same vibe from Bill too when I'd go to the Spring Valley store when I was in high school in the 90's. No prices on anything and he'd just tell you whatever he wanted based on who you were at the register and I was a nobody (most would say I still am).

BUT, once he realized we shared the same affinity for his "best friend" Ben Harper, everything changed. Those two hours with him is a day I'll never forget and he couldn't have been nicer. And then several months later he was gone sadly.

Nothing could ever beat that original location though even as disorganized as it was.

I ran the Blockbuster Music right across the street. Lol.

Hahaha nice! I met my first serious girlfriend in high school that worked at the Blockbuster Music in Carrollton. She opened up a rap cd for me to listen to, I chatted her up, we exchanged numbers and lasted all of five months. lol
