My kid just finished this book in his 4th grade class, so I took him to see this movie.

It was pretty darn good. Best kids movie I've seen in a long time.

My almost 10 year old son said it was "awesome" and my 6 year old daughter said it was "very emotional".

Glad to see there are still good kids movies that don't have minions in them.

Saw tonight - kids are 7 and 5 - both loved it. So did I - super well done and definitely some emotional pieces from a parent perspective. Definitely recommend!

But….I just bought the tickets and it was SEVENTY DOLLARS for four of us! Matinee! This has gotten ridiculous.

My kids demanded to go to this movie. They love the books and have them practically memorized. I've read the third book with my son. It's an astonishing movie and the near-universal praise is warranted. My kids say it sticks very close to the book and they thought that was a good thing. They like the book more, however (got to have that conversation with them).

Just got back and thought it was really good. My son, who has read the book, thought the book was better. My daughter, who has not read the book, cried multiple times and deemed it her second favorite movie ever behind Frozen.

Yeah, my son said the same. Said that Chitchat was completely written out of the movie and was a pivotal part in the book. They did have a squirrel in the movie, but I dont recall if it had more than a cursory 1 line or non-speaking part kind of like the prehistoric squirrel from Ice Age.

In the book, Chitchat becomes Brightbill's first true friend.

I always love having this conversation on the way home with my kids.

More interested in the "why" they thought that and not just the "what". Very interesting. It almost always boils down to the fact that their imaginations were much more vivid than the movie, or some parts were left out, which is really interesting to hear.

Inside Out 2 was so great, I agree with you. I didnt think there could be another movie to top it, but TWR is a contender.

I just love taking my kids to the movies to experience the same magic I did when I was their age.

Took my kids today. It was a very good movie. Probably one of the best kids movies that I can remember in the last 5 years.

Surprised my kids with this one today. My son's 3rd grade class read it last year, so he was excited. He also said the book was better, and mentioned the chipmunk, but added "that was a really good movie."

There is probably something for them to relate to as it pertains to relationships with a parent.

Also, I think any dad that watches this would get hit in the feels, too.

Wow that was really good. Been a while since we've seen a movie hit us all emotionally like that. We have a 7th grade girl and 6th grade boy and they were both really into it.

My wife was crying. My daughter (who has grown to be a bit emotionally distant thru this last year almost like Riley) came out with glassy eyes. We could read each others thoughts which was enough for this old dad.

Thanks for the recommendation. Would never have seen it without this thread.

There are some intense action scenes that might be a little frightening for someone that age, and there are some themes of death. Probably could be most closely equated to Bambi or the ship going over in Frozen

It's one of those movies where you need to really know your kid. There are some intense scenes, but it's not over-the-top or graphic. A 4 year old may get a little scared and some of it will go over her head, but I'd also say it's funny and friendly enough that she could enjoy it if she doesn't scare easily.

Gorgeous film. (Dreamworks has really put out some amazing-looking movies lately.) Definitely tugged at my parent heartstrings.

My son and my wife read the book pretty recently and they both said they liked the changes they made. If I understood them correctly, the book it a great story but not funny at all. The movie definitely leaned into the humorous elements more.

I took my 5 and 3 yr old granddaughters to see it and they loved it. The only tickets that were available were for 8:45 so I thought for sure they would fall asleep but they watched it all.

Bumping as this came to peacock on Friday.

First time seeing it (my wife and 5yr old daughter saw in theaters) after my wife told me we had to watch as a family on Friday night.

Definitely hits you in the feels and can be very relatable for a child and so thematically true for parents.

Will there be a sequel? Ros' escape from Alcatraz, perhaps?

There is a 3 book series out and based on the numbers, it likely will.

Watched this with our 5 and 6 year olds tonight. We all loved it. It was truly funny (not cheesy lame funny like a lot of kids movies) and very heartwarming. Even had the Harry & the Hendersons / Return of the King style credits at the end that get me every time. Highly recommend.
