I am a fan of old rock and rock-a-billy, and I hear so many artists have praised Elvis as an influence (LZ, Beatles, Jim Morrison, Springsteen, etc.).

I know the big hits and my favorites by him are Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, Love Me Tender, Return to Sender. My wife has Sirius XM and sometimes leaves it on the Elvis station. There have been a few songs I've heard on there while driving her car that I really liked and had never heard before. And then I quickly forgot the name of the song.

What Elvis songs are great that I am probably not familiar with?

This is a thread that really makes me miss Fast Fred.

Anything gospel .If he hadn't become the greatest R&R singer of all time he would have been the greatest gospel singer of all time.

Dwight Yoakum's cover of "Suspicious Minds" is better than the original.

You should preface this with "It is my opinion that…".

Also, I respectfully disagree.

The Sun Sessions album before Sam Phillips sold his contract to RCA and the big hits came out. It includes songs like "Mystery Train" and "That's Alright".

Mark James, who wrote that song and is from Houston, just passed recently.

One song that's not really a deep cut, but is a lesser known song, that I've always liked is Kentucky Rain.

My folks had one of those old console sets that was about 6 feet long that sat in the entry way and doubled as a catch all table. They played about 5 records on repeat for the better part of my early childhood.

Elvis' 68 Comeback Special
Elvis' 73 Aloha From Hawaii
The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds"
Dick Dale's "Wanna Surf"
Neil Diamond's "Hot August Night" live album

Haven't though about this in a bit. So thanks for the trip down memory road. I will say that I don't think any musician has ever been as cool Elvis in the 68 Comeback.

Sidenote about that Dick Dale album: his version of "Miserlou" is on there. It had been years since I heard it when it popped up in Pulp Fiction. Even still, when that song comes on, I can smell my old house.

Bonus fun fact. My old man (Class of 63) loved surf rock. Of all the bands I liked growing up, the only one he could stomach was....Sublime. Still cracks me up.

I like to get on Spotify and search for "artist xyz" all albums in order. Listen to the entire catalog and see what you like. Current listening to Pink Floyd albums. I need to do the same with Elvis.

Very interesting to think about artists like Elvis in terms of people listening to his music as we go forward. I can't imagine many of the newest generation having ever heard an Elvis song.

Elvis expert here !!! Are you trying to find the song you heard ? Then a question would be was it old Elvis or young Elvis ?

Some GREAT albums with I think what you are calling deeper cuts:

moody blue
That's the way it is
Reconsider Baby
Elvis recorded live on stage in Memphis
Elvis the complete 50's masters
Elvis country
68 comeback (not really all deep cuts but maybe something you haven't heard)

Also if you love the bluesy sound highly rec Reconsider Baby album! It's to die for!

If you have any inkling to how the song went I can ID ir for you
