Surprised there isnt a thread on this show yet. The first episode was pretty good, but the second episode was insane. 2 more episodes to go, releases Sunday night at 9 CDT.

We watched the first one. It was good enough to continue buy I didn't think it was anything super special. Interested to see episode 2 after your comment.

Give it a shot. I was with you on ep. 1 , just thought it was so-so. i'd watch 2 before you give up on it.

Watching. Loving it so far, especially episode 2.

I know they have a proxy director, but why is the crazy lady giving him so much access? What does she think they are taping for? What does she think the documentary is about? Feels a little dirty bc they are obviously tricking her under false pretenses.

crazy lady probably likes the attention. And she's not exactly smart so she obviously doesn't realize she's being duped.

Right, I know that she doesn't realize she is being duped. But what are they telling her to dupe her? As in, what does she believe they are filming for (i.e., what does she think is the purpose of the film they are filming)?

They are clearly duping her but they never explained exactly how they are duping her.

i just think she's an attention ***** and is going along with it b/c she wants to be "famous." i mean they obviously they had to lie to get some of the footage they got, but i feel for the most part, she just wants attention so she goes along with whatever.

Their cover is a guy who did prison time for smuggling exotic animals. I'd say it's a combo of (1) attention ***** and (2) given his history, she thinks he's going to tell her side of the story. This is not someone who thinks what she is doing is wrong. So having someone sympathetic to tell her version is seen as helpful

Yea it has to be something like that. Just wish they would show what they were actually telling her. But I'm guessing it would put them in a bad light bc they are straight up lying to her, so they are just glossing over that.

The key factor is that this is a woman that does not think she is doing anything wrong. So his background + "we want to tell your story" may be all it takes. I'm sure there is some deception going on beyond that, but it may have taken surprisingly little.

She loves these animals. She taking good care of these animals (in her mind). And PETA is a bunch and of loons (not entirely wrong there, although this is isn't one of their looney moments). What can't everyone see that? [/her thoughts] So given that, I think that sets her up to be more open.

So I wasn't familiar at all with the story. Didn't look anything up after watching episode 1 or in process of episode 2 other than more about the horrific story with Travis.

When the lawyer or whoever from court advised her that she was still being recorded all in thought was oh they basically warned her so she wouldn't have a Robert durst moment. But then this dumbass lady proceeds to one up durst in the ensuing 5 minutes. Just holy crap

lol right. I doubt they prosecute her for perjury, but even if they are on your side I don't think you should be providing video proof of you committing perjury over and over again.

Isn't that smarmy looking guy an actual actor or someone famous?

I'm just more surprised there is no reference to the Texas A&M reference in the first episode so far.

Just watched Ep 3. This keeps getting crazier.

We watched it this week after I saw this thread....Both enjoyed it but at the same time shaking our heads a lot. It was a great break in serious shows or long season shows we've been stuck in.
A few thoughts I had
- anytime they were inside the room with the pink cages, the only thing I could think of was "what does it smell like in there?"
- We had a hard time siding with PETA about anything (just general principles, not this show). I wish they would have talked to the whistleblower a little bit more but maybe I just missed it by getting up. I have no doubt what she saw was pretty bad and wished to hear from her more than those wussy PETA folks.

i generally think PETA is a bunch of wack jobs, so it takes someone/something pretty crazy for me view them as the sane ones in this show.

Exactly. The one female PETA lady seemed completely rational and could agree that she actually cared about the animals getting to a better environment. We laughed at the two geeky looking ones sitting on a vehicle watching it all go down while doing absolutely nothing to help.

Of course it starts in Florida.

There is face-chewing in the show. I feel that is not a spoiler for a chimp show if I don't say which faces.

Also an officer/chimp involved shooting.

There's more episodes to come, so additional face-chewing remains on the table.

Ok, just finished episode 4 which seems to be the last episode. All I can say is Chimp Crazy is the most accurate name of a series/documentary I think I have ever seen. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Watched the whole series with my jaw on the floor.

Internally, I am torn. I severely dislike PETA and almost everything they do, but someone had to intervene for sure. It seems highly unlikely law enforcement would have stepped in or even known about what this lady was doing so I am glad it finally came to light some how. Seems to me that all of these people who own exotic animals as pets, based on this show and Tiger King, are all crazy or at the very least very eccentric.

No, you had it right the first time. They're severely crazy.
