Are there any classical music afficianados on here who can recommend a good recording of Beethoven's Ode to Joy?

I'm looking for full chorus and symphony, where it really kicks at the climax. Like loud enough that Beethoven could hear it even though he was deaf.

Are you asking for a recording of specifically just the Ode to Joy tune, or Beethoven's Ninth symphony, for which he composed that melody (in the 4th movement)?

Can't go wrong with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Karajan.

Side comment - my daughter graduated HS in 2020 and was asked to play a cello piece for the online grad (blah). She decided to play a cello octet doing all 8 voices. It's surprisingly difficult as each recording pre-mix has to be exactly the same tempo.

Oh and after about 18 years of playing classical music, she absolutely can't stand Ode to Joy.

I am a huge fan of this long movie scene from Copying Beethoven. The music and filming of this really brings home the power of the entire Symphony and I love when the chorus kicked in.

Any band kid, no matter the instrument, and it'll be one of the first 5 tunes you learn. It becomes a trashing pretty quickly.
