Why doesn't Rosamund Pike get more major roles in American movies?

In my opinion, Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl was one of the best performances by a woman in the recent history of American film. On the same level as Frances McDormand in Fargo/Three Billboards, Kathy Bates in Misery, Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs, Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, and Julianne Moore in Still Alice.

Why doesn't she get more major leading roles in American movies?

Very true. She's hot and can really act. Had sorta forgotten about her but she was amazing in Gone Girl.

Probably a smart woman who didn't let Hollywood groom her.

Just watched the first Jack Reacher flick last night, for the first time in forever (side note - Tom Cruise isn't a good Jack Reacher). Pike was good in her role though.

The most recent thing we've seen her in is the series Wheel of Time. She's good in that as well.

According to Wiki she lives in Prague with her boyfriend and their two sons, and she's doing about one film per year. That probably means she picks and chooses the ones she's willing to be in nowadays.

She just finished wrapping up the third season of the wheel of time Amazon series. She's moving back to England. She also records audio books. She recorded pride and prejudice and now the first three books of the wheel of time series. She's working on book 4 right now.

Maybe she's just really selective about which roles she takes?

She was a great Bond girl/Bad girl

She was just recently in Saltburn

Still haven't seen it but she gets work. I think she's just very selective and it works for her.

Peter Dinklage was great in this as well.

I know he has four Emmys, but Dinklage would probably have multiple Oscars if he didn't have a disability.

He is an excellent actor, but the major prestige Oscar type movie roles have been sadly limited for him because of his disability.

She was very good in Saltburn.

I hated her character in I Care A lot, which means she did a good job and is a good actress

She was so smoking hot in this movie.

Still a very attractive woman. Especially for being English

I always remember her very typical bond name.... Miranda Frost. She was supposed to be icy/frosty personality of course. It was the bond with the ice hotel and stuff. Die Another Day. Brosnan's last.

Need to see Saltburn.

Hopefully she gets more roles in major American movies.

Such a good actress.

Gone Girl Pike is my favorite performance by an actress in a movie ever.

Based off the multiple responses on this thread, all naming different movies, I'd say she gets plenty of Hollywood roles.

I think she gets roles she wants and maybe just is not bent on over saturation like some actors.

She also tends to live a more private life it seems in Prague away from the spotlight with her partner and 2 kids and keeps them out of the spotlight too, rarely appearing publicly together. He is apparently a very private and quirky person who abhores any focus on him.

She's 45 which is an age it can be difficult for actresses to get a lot of major roles unless you've already achieved a certain level of stardom. She's pretty fun in Wheel of Time.

Amusingly wiki tells me she was an executive producer on 3 Body Problem although she didn't appear in front of the camera.

Another great one not mentioned is Hostiles. She doesn't shine or anything in it more than Bale but a great, underrated movie.

I saw Hostiles and Wind River back to back and thought I'd never be happy again. Phenomenal but sad movies.

She is what I call disarmingly beautiful - her porcelain skin and features are striking to such a degree that you feel like you should not look at her but you want to. I think people think she is unapproachable as a result but from what I know of her she is quite endearing actually but very measured in her words which makes her seem aloof. Suffers from what people assume about her based on her looks I think.

When I was part of an exchange with the Royal College of Surgeons in London a fair while back, she was at a fundraiser. Met her and talked for maybe 3-4 minutes. Unbelievably smart, charming and sophisticated as you can get, and is a mesmerizing beauty. My wife even said "that's got to be the sexiest woman alive"

Generally speaking, we vastly underestimate how beautiful these people are. Even actors/actresses who are not cast as the bombshell typically stand out in pretty much every room they walk into.

Exactly. A case of more "simple" people on TV - when I was doing my undergrad honors thesis, the KBTX anchor who on TV kind of looked like a near miss mousy nerd but was kind of cute came in to do a story on research in the lab I was working. In real life she was very pretty.

Guy from my hometown was a commercial pilot. He ended up getting a sweet gig being the pilot for Aerosmith. He had some stories!

He would fly them to wherever and often get invited to any party they were attending.

He went to some shindig that Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear were throwing at their place.

As beautiful as Heather always was in print and on tv or in movies, he said she was ten times better looking in person. He was amazed at how a human could be that stunning.

And no, he is not Garth Algar.
