A thread on all things Metal Up Your Ass

I am so fixated on James right now in the 80s.

Look at him in 1983....a kid.

Watch him in Live **** in 1989...a man.

Is this from alcohol and touring? Dude looks like he is late 30s on this tour but he is only 26 haha

The greatest music of anyones life is what they were listening to from ages 14-24. The Black album came out in 1991. I was born in 1976.

I still say Death Magnetic is one of the most unappreciated albums ever put out

I saw them in a club on the Ride The Lightning tour and then saw them at Monsters of Rock. I was definitely in the 14-24 range at that point.

Haven't seen them since but would like to.

Saw them live in 2003 and 2023

Pretty insane to think that 20 years flew by that quick

Of my top 10 albums of all time only 2 were released in that age window, Dirt and Amorica.

Folks who haven't gone back to them since Napster should definitely check Death Magnetic out.

A somewhat infamous Houston punk musician peed on lars at a bar one night when they were in town. This was just after the whole Napster thing

I think people are selfish sometimes when it comes to bands selling out. They want them to be off the radar and live a indie record music life.

If a band is good, real good, that doesn't last long

Lots of Metallica fans thought they sold out with the black album and it didn't help when Lars had that absolute d-bag response to being called a sellout...saying something like "yeah, we sold out...shows across the world!" And then did the d-bag Lars laugh. The Napster thing was a bad look but I've always thought if you want to listen to Ride The Lightning every few years, nobody's stopping you. How many bands (ac/DC excluded) can you name that have had a HoF level career by sounding the same from their debut through their decay?

I like that one. Suicide and Redemption is pretty great. I will say that I might enjoy Hardwired a little more than Death Magnetic, and it seems like barely anyone talked about it.

I remember putting the CD in my truck and this being the first song and cranking the volume up all the dang way!

Lots of other great songs on that album but I think this is my favorite:

Watching live **** binge 1993 tonight

Crazy to see how 10 years, 5 albums, world tours and massive amounts of alcohol and drugs ages a man

But seriously, damn!

I saw them at the '88 Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl where they debuted Harvester of Sorrow. Jump to about 17:10 in this video (I was down in front of the stage):

What is the most technical song they've made lately? As they get up there in age, can they still hammer out songs like Disposable Heroes?

And it seems like NOBODY talks about 72 Seasons. What are everyone's thoughts on that one?

Pretty sure we had a whole thread about that album and had some people go to the theatres where it debuted for the first time as well as their week long deal on the tonight show when it was coming out

I like the new stuff. A buddy of mine said he feels like the drumming isn't as exciting as Death Magnetic (and before) and I think he's right. Kinda slowed it down. But it's still solid.

Saw them in Arlington last year and they were still killing all their more technical songs.

I think as they age, they will learn to adapt on different ways to play it with the same outcome.

Alright Metallica lovers. Here are my guitars. Please recommend which guitar be played to get the best sound per album. I'm rediscovering Metallica riffs and having fun.

1. Schecter Diamond Series C-1 Platinum with Active 81/85 EMG pickups

2. Gibson Les Paul Classic

3. Gibson 70s Flying V

Here's what I was thinking:

Kill Em All: Flying V

Ride The Lightning: Flying V/ Les Paul

Master of Puppets: Flying V/Les Paul

And Justice for all: Les Paul/ Schecter

Black Album: Schecter
