Hey guys! What topic unrelated to the actual point of the thread are we arguing about today?
The 1483 Defenestration of Prague.

Would you say the Bohemians won, or Ferdinand II ran out of time?
A draw

you've never heard that at a sporting event? We didn't lose, we just ran out of time? I've heard countless aggies say that.

but also... what is death, if not literally running out of time?
You're equating a sporting event where we ran out of time but live to play another day to dying from cancer. Wow!

Also, the cancer's goal is to kill you even at its own expense. If it really wanted to "win" and not die to cause a draw by killing you as alluded to by the other poster, then it's goal would be to leave you in an incurable state of illness to continually feed the cancer.
Holy **** dude. Pump the brakes. Its not a sports thing. It's a reference to the fact that most call it a "battle" against cancer. Fairly common too, at least in my part of the world. It means that the cancer patient did not "lose" the battle but fought the cancer to a draw. Its just a way to append some level of positivity to the whole mess, usually for the survivors.

There is zero negative context to that statement. Actually the literal opposite.
First, I didn't bring up the sports reference. She said don't you Aggies use that. Pretty poor analogy in my opinion.

And "holy **** dude" yourself - from where I'm coming from in my profession, unless you die at an old age of natural causes, you lost your fight to live longer. A "draw" is where both you and the cancer live but neither can get the better of the other. No death and no remission.
Ok. You can disagree with a saying. There are several I hate too tbh. I have zero interest in defending it myself. Just explaining it and reacting to your what is now obvious passion about it. I can respect that. I know you're a doc and probably in the field or adjacent so completely understood. I get the essence behind the saying but also not a particular fan either so never use it myself.

Wait, swimmy isn't an Ag? That's the real takeaway here....

always makes me laugh when people realize that I never ended up at A&M as though it's news.

I'm truly not being glib about death and we all handle death in different ways. I was surprised to see someone be so offended by what seems so harmless to me. On the other hand, if when a loved one dies, someone tells me that they are an angel now, I will probably not be able to hold my tongue in correcting that...perhaps it is a similar feeling.

tldr: life on Earth is hard and we are all trying to cope all the time.

3 of her 4 most popular shows:

1. Little House on the Prairie - Melissa Gilbert wanted nothing to do with her later.
2. Beverly Hills 90210 - By about season 4, all cast and crew want her gone.
3. Charmed - Leaves show after conflicts with cast.

And then on Our House, she gave Wilford Brimley diabetes.

However, now that I'm about her age, I feel that no one should have to die that young. Hope she was at peace and with family. Cancer sux

She was a disturbed soul no doubt. I hope she is in peace now.

Yes, season 9 when it was called "Little House: A New Beginning" and focused on Laura/ Almanzo and the town. (Ma/ Pa had moved away.) She played their niece Jenny who lives with them after her father dies while they are visiting.

You were always about her age then, and previously you felt that people should die that young?

I worked with her right after she was first diagnosed in 2015. She was super nice but I am guessing a cancer diagnosis can give you an attitude adjustment real quick. Edit: I used to joke that she got nice cancer.

Melissa Gilbert (Laura) was a little mentor to her because apparently, Doherty told her that growing up, she always wanted to be like her. Several years later, while separated, Gilbert's husband would cheat on her by sleeping with Shannen. The story goes that when Melissa confronted Doherty about sleeping with her husband, she said something like, "I told you I always wanted to be you" or something like that.

Gilbert's husband then said, "But we were on a break!"

I watched some of her Podcasts and this is not exactly true.

she was best friends with Tori Spelling for the first 3 years of 90210. Then Spelling was dating a guy who was beating her and taking drugs which ended their friendship. then Doherty was dating a guy who was using drugs and beating her- which caused her to be late to set several times

finally some of the cast went to the producer and asked for her to be gone- but it was also because Doherty was on the front cover of Rolling Stone without the other women. and even then Spelling and Brian Austin Green did not agree with going to get her fired

Doherty was great friends with Holly Marie Combs to the day she died, it was the B@#@# Alyssa Milano who was jealous and wanted her gone.

This quote from Milano while respectful is pretty telling:

"She was a talented actress, beloved by many, and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her."

Shannen meanwhile said some nice things about Milano before her death.
