I don't know what that word means

What I mean when I say cultural influence is the ability, or lack thereof, to influence people's perspectives, behaviors, and movements, specifically those of young people. The large screen is distant at this point, both physically and metaphysically. Especially in comparison to the small screen, which has served as a conduit for the tunnel vision that now reigns. This can be good: increased attention to fitness and work matters and suchlike. Or it can be bad: a lack of attention and interest in others beyond your own circle, or even within your own.

Even if you accept this, to which one is not obliged, I think it'd be foolish to expect movies like those to continue their runs on the basis of entertainment and spectacle alone. Sports, concerts, and "grander" forms of social media (reality tv) can do this much better.

Just wait. Any particular movie's legitimate value is based on its long term reputation, like anything (or anyone) else. And its reputation is in its cultural influence, as I said above. Look at all of the guys in here who are nuts over Star Wars and other franchises and particular actors: these entities shaped these guys. They weren't just curiosities or attempts to cling to the past, to a childhood perhaps, back when the form still shaped young people. Shaped, not just the ability to relate to something. Relatability might as well be a death knell, after all.

I don't mind you caring about film or tv, to be clear. Your financial well-being is of course based upon this. Just don't conflate the box office or streaming numbers with what moves people (physically first and foremost).
