Got to see him on the Rattle That Lock tour at Madison Square Garden, and it was incredible!! Sure hope he comes this side of the pond, but if not, I will likely fly to see him in Europe somewhere awesome. Tix will be insane, but that's a last chance opportunity thing.

David Gilmour : Stevie Ray Vaughan :: John Bonham : Neil Pert

I'm no musician, but I think Stevie Ray Vaughan and Neil Pert were probably more technically capable than David Gilmour and John Bonham at their respective instruments, but the latter's music was much better. I could listen to them all day.

Maybe I'm just dumb but you seem to be saying that SRV & Peart were better at their instruments AND made better music? I'm assuming you meant former instead of latter but I'm old and take drugs.

No, the other way on who made better music. SRV and Peart were better at their instruments, but I think Gilmour and Bonham's music was better.

I could be wrong on who is better at what instrument. I have no idea how hard things are to play. I'm just guessing on what is harder.

I was at A&M at the time. Caught a ride home to DFW that weekend but didn't have a ticket or really any money for one. Some friends were going and tried to talk me into finding a ticket and going with them but my dumb ass said "I'll catch them on the next tour." Almost as bad as when I ended up not getting tickets for what turned out to be SRV's last show. I was in HS and my sister was going to go with me but all I could get was lawn and she didn't want to do that.

Still have the bootleg vinyl I picked up at the Goldenwest Swap Meet a few months later.

My HS friends went in 94 to see them at Rice and I didn't know who they were at the time so I didn't go.
One of the biggest regrets of my life.

I saw the tour set for this tour, he's coming to LA and NYC but he made a statement that due to the big rift going on with him and Roger (I don't blame David) he might stay away from playing any of the PF stuff that Roger wrote. So that made me hesitant to really consider flying to LA or NY to see him for the first time. He's my favorite guitarist ever but, he's my favorite because of his PF work, never could get into his solo stuff.

Today he streamed a live rehearsal for his tour and they played Breathe and Time so looks like old PF stuff is going to make it in after all. Now I have to really consider breaking the bank to go see him.

I was at that '94 show on the 15th row on the floor. It was one of the most memorable concert experiences of my life.

Today they would end the show as soon as all the lightning started. That night they played until Gilmour's guitar crapped out early on in Run Like Hell.

Richard Wright had already lost a keyboard due to the rain.

Between the lasers and the lightning and the downpour and the thunder and the music, it was quite a show.

Today they would cancel the concert at the first bolt of lightning.

Spent some time with his new album over the weekend. Unsurprisingly, I liked it a lot, but it's probably not for everyone. Typically great Gilmour guitar work, but he is clearly doing what he wants and not looking for a single (I don't view that as a bad thing). Compared to his other "recent" output, I think I like this album a little better than Rattle That Lock, but not as much as On An Island.

On An Island was a disappointment for me. I wanted to like it. Just couldn't do it.

His solo albums, in all honesty never did anything for me. On an Island was the one I tolerated the most. However Luck and Strange, I actually enjoy. It's a different flavor from most of his other works for sure, but I have really grown to like it.

Was worth the trip. Song selection was well balanced between solo and Floyd stuff. He still has it for sure.
