Later today, I'm starting a fiction ghostwriting project about an astronaut on a space station who sees the Earth get destroyed by unknown forces. He has to contemplate what happened and what happens next among other things. I'm looking to put together a list of song (instrumental and otherwise) to kind of capture the mood that this sort of isolation would evoke. Wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for me to build a Spotify play list. - specific track titles would be great if it's from a movie soundtrack.

Stupid suggestions are also welcome, because that's what I would give if I saw this thread.

If you give me some good ones, I'll try to work your user name into the book.

Appreciate it! Porkchop

Some great atmospheric instrumentals. I am currently writing a space opera. I've found these to provide some great inspiration and motivation.

From the Hulu original series "The First" (unfortunately got cancelled after 1 season)

Empire of Light original score is great as well

I'm a Zep fan and I know I'm in the minority, but I don't like No Quarter. Also, and this is a can of worms I'm opening, I don't like When the Levee Breaks.

Just to add, I think you should listen to this song first. In my mind, this is the greatest, most underrated one hit wonder ever in the hard rock arena.

The artist is an Australian dude named Billy Thorpe. I first heard this song at age 11 or so. My family was at the Pizza Inn Tuesday night buffet in Mesquite, TX when this crazy, awesome song was played on the jukebox.

Yeah, lol, probably does, but those 2 songs I just never could like. I could of course list many that I love, but...

Another story... for the young 'uns...

Way back in about '96 or so, I was working as a programmer for MCI in Colorado. My then-wife was working on her bachelors degree in nursing and had a presentation to do. It was a presentation about the ideas of some old therapist or philosopher who had some really wild, strange ideas.

My then-wife wanted me to make a tape of some "weird", spacey music. I proceeded to use my boom box to tape 45 minutes of the intros of Xanadu, In the Evening, and Children of the Sun. She and her other presenters played it in the background while they gave their presentation.

They got an A. True story.

Yeah, you should probably stop calling yourself a "Zep fan " to be accurate. Lol.

That ground has already been covered, and I know, as I stated, I'm in the minority. But there's tons of great Zep songs. So here's my top 5 fave Zep songs, which imo are light years better than No Quarter and Levee.

Rain Song
Ten Years Gone
What is and What Should Never Be
The Ocean
Dancing Days

I'll add another one: Planet Caravan. The Black Sabbath original works, though I personally prefer the Pantera cover.

Gotta include this to a thread like this one:

This is the full soundtrack from the video game Soma….the story of this game is nothing like what you've written but without giving away spoilers (because holy crap this was one of the best stories in a video game I've ever played) it involves the end of humanity and its of the horror genre….

Some great mood setting tracks on here….the uploaded didn't differentiate between them but someone in the comments broke them up into tracks with time stamps….
