if anything they should go MORE hardcore like a John Wick movie (obviously not killing 600 people in 30 minutes) but the world is a very dangerous place,

it's insane to me that there are not a ton of movies about REALITY on the planet

rather than the 1,567th made up CGI fake superhero movies based on comic books and ancient Greek gods.

the Western world is consumed with avoiding reality at all costs.

To be fair I didn't watch much of Sisu and haven't caught more than maybe 2 Statham movies. They looked serious to me, if I'm wrong mea culpa
Sisu was a farce of a movie, very entertaining but existing in no known reality. I haven't seen many Statham movies - the Expendables series, and both the Meg movies. I wouldn't consider any of those to be serious although they were entertaining for what they were.

Any chance they go period piece with this?

Cillian Murphy would nail it.

Sisu was very over the top, Statham does a wide range but his are often kinda insane.

There's also the whole Fast & Furious series which are ridiculous and have made billions (and Hobbs & Shaw was actually good).

He is 47, only a few years younger than Idris Elba. I think both are too old.

Late 40s, 100 lb soaking wet Cillian Murphy? No.

I mean, to be fair, the John Wick universe isn't realistic (I know you said that with the body count), but real world hand-to-hand combat is almost nothing like the Wick or "Gun Fu" films made famous by The Raid. It's awesome to watch on film, but it bears little resemblance to anything close to reality. A more realistic fight sequence would be like Eastern Promises, where fights devolve less into stylized violence and more into brute instinct and mayhem, complete with slow deaths and gruesome injuries.

All of the bad guys in the Wick universe are effectively zombies. The only way someone finally dies is with the 5th gunshot to the head.

Worst take. Bond movies are supposed to be pure escapism, big sets, great locales, and sometimes unrealistic action and suave, charming James Bond. Craig was dull and depressing to watch as he moped around for 5 movies

If Pierce Brosnan got the scripts Craig had, people would say he's the best Bond ever. Craig had 2/5 good movies. Not that impressive

There's no way Brosnan could pull off those scripts.

George Lazenby was 29 when OHMSS came out.

Sean Connery was only 32 in Dr. No.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be 33 if cast.

Daniel Craig was 37.

Timothy Dalton was 41.

Pierce Brosnan was 42.

Roger Moore was 45.

And the Bond girls are now going to be grandmothers if ATJ takes the role

If Casino Royale and Skyfall is your definition of what is good, then Roger Moore batted 1 for 7. Dalton was decent, but none of his movies were as good as Craig's best. Brosnan had one good movie out of 4.

obviously it's personal taste- but every one of the Craig movies is better than any of the others.

I just don't like the cartoonish Bond villians.

I don't like watching buffoons in any medium, so for me the Craig movies were the most perfect version of Bond.

also they were actually serious emotional movies dealing with death, getting older, love lost, grief, betrayal.

nothing like that really existed before Craig.

While I didn't like No Time to Die, I thought Quantum of Solace and Spectre were decent. They were better than all of Pierce Brosnan's movies besides Goldeneye and I would place them above almost all of the Roger Moore movies.

Roger Moore's Bond taught me from an early age that women will take their clothes off if you talk **** at them and treat them like objects.

Personally I thought the Dalton Bond movies were two of the best. An arms dealer and a drug kingpin were the villains, so I wouldn't think of them as cartoonish as, say, Jaws. I put Connery's early Bond movies at about the same level as Craig's (of which I liked 4, didn't care for QoS but my last rewatch elevated it slightly). Brosnan had only Goldeneye that I will rewatch (despite its God-awful musical score). As for Moore, many of his are guilty pleasures but other than For Your Eyes Only, they don't exist in anything remotely resembling reality.

GoldenEye was Brosnan's only great one (my personal favorite of all time), but enjoy both Tomorrow Never Dies and World Is Not Enough. Call it nostalgia or guilty pleasures.

And I think NTDD is actually pretty good, just that it's compared to two all-timers in CR and Skyfall.

Spectre was decent, and QoS is entirely forgettable but watchable. (Most bland villain in the franchise?)

The film's name is certainly the most contrived in the franchise.

I liked Craig's version, Bond was such a sissy with every actor after Connery. Craig was more of a tough asskicking Bond.

too old. needs to be able to carry the franchise 12-15 years.

plus he is likely a bit larger/buffer than they want.

but I would love him in the role. even if it was only 3 movies.

Well, duh. I'm saying Pierce played James Bond better but Craig is given my credit because his movies were better written, directed, just better. Could you imagine Craig trying to pull off his Bond dealing with Denise Richards or invisible cars or cgi kite surfing?

Agree on Spy Who Loved Me. Easily Moore's best and the best post Connery bond until Goldeneye. The other two are on the same level as Spectre and QoS IMO.

Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes only is rank ahead of Spectre and QOS. I'm undecided on where NTTD would fall within those 5, but it would at least be the 3rd best. Probably 3rd, if I got it to 2 it would be to move Live and Let Die down to 3.

We own the entire Bond Blu-Ray collection and have yet to start watching any of them. We will start watching these and I'll report back on these films and let y'all know which ones are the best so we can put this to bed.

You can put it to bed all you want, but I'll maintain my own opinions on this series. From comments already posted, I have some differences of opinion on what constitutes a good-to-great 007 movie than what others do.

Why would you buy the whole set if you'd never seen any of them.
