The OP included stuff from GoT so I decided to toss in my favorite TV one.
Not complaining, I just didn't even consider TV. Didn't read any list until I compiled my own, Noticed yours and Porkchop's I guess because they were close to mine I guess. I do love the theme to The Pacific.. Probably no TV would have made the cut over the one's I picked. Had a tough time whittling down films as it was.

I don't know about full soundtracks, but the score for this scene in "First Man" was freaking nails:

Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk and The Social Network by Trent Reznor were pretty good too.

Tron: Legacy Reconfigured is pretty good as well.

Love both of these. There's so many great ones that get left out of a top ten because it's such a small selection.

And since they rarely get mentioned for their score, gotta give some love to Brad Fiedel for both Terminator movies.

Bruce Almighty

There's some definite confusion on this thread. The op says soundtracks but list scores on his own list.

Always liked the way this song was used in Excalibur.

carmina burana knights charge in excalibur

The Shining and Platoons main themes were also pretty good.

Rocky 4 song when he's working out.

I've not seen anyone mention Basil Poledouris' score for Conan the Barbarian yet. That's an incredible score, especially Theology/Civilization.

Man, this list hits, and completely agree about it being modern classical music. My wife doesn't get it and wants music with words, but I listen to soundtracks more than anything else. I am not sure I could pin point 10 favorite movie soundtracks let alone 10 individual tracks but off the top of my head:

Gladiator
Road to Perdition
Man from Snowy River
The Patriot
The Rock
Rudy
How to Train Your Dragon
Dances With Wolves
The Natural
Jurassic Park
Back to the Future
LOTR

Low key really good one that is not well known because the movie didn't do super well, but Basil Paledouris score from the live action Jungle Book from 1994 is outstanding.

Star Wars
Amadeus
Darkest Hour
Rocky
Spirit
Jurassic Park
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Patton
Out of Africa
Baby Driver
Superman

PS. How could I forget - The Hunt for Red October

My Top 10 Movie Score Tracks (plus 1)

1. Theology/Civilization - Conan the Barbarian, Basil Poledouris
2. The Asteroid Field - The Empire Strikes Back, John Williams
3. The Journey - The Magnificent Seven, Elmer Bernstein
4. Main Title - The Great Escape, Elmer Bernstein
5. Raiders March - Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, John Williams
6. Welcome to Jurassic Park - Jurassic Park, John Williams
7. Back to the Future - Back to the Future, Alan Silvestri
8. The Incredits - The Incredibles, Michael Giacchino
9. Battle in the Mutara Nebula - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, James Horner
10. Main Title - The Black Hole, John Barry

I'm dating myself a lot with these picks, but so what. These are all classics from my youth and early adulthood.

My "plus 1": If I can add something more contemporary from a score composer who I think is underrated, it would be Daniel Pemberton's score for Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Yes, in the wake of Armie Hammer's disgrace it's a movie that might be hard for some to watch anymore. Pemberton's score is really fantastic, though, and worth a listen. Give "Escape from East Berlin", "Signori Toileto Italiano", and "Take You Down" a try. Lots of unusual instrumentation and fun rhythms.

What are your ten favorite movie soundtracks? Hoping there are some fellow film score lovers on here. I'll list my ten favorite soundtracks and the composer in no particular order, plus my favorite piece from each. Choosing just these ten was extremely difficult.
Score, Piece
  • Interstellar(Hans Zimmer), No Time for Caution
  • The Dark Knight(Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard), I'm Not a Hero
  • The Last of the Mohicans(Trevor Jones), The Kiss
  • Game of Thrones Season 8(Ramin Djawadi), The Last of the Starks
  • Inception(Hans Zimmer), Time
  • The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert For(Nick Cave, Warren Ellis), What Must Be Done
  • Transformers: Age of Extinction(Steve Jablonsky), Hunted
  • Dune(Hans Zimmer), Ripples in the Sand
  • King Arthur: Legend of the Sword(Daniel Pemberton), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring(Howard Shore), Concerning Hobbits

Scores are usually created by one or more composers, while soundtracks typically feature songs by different bands, artists, or musicians. Soundtracks typically feature vocal music, whereas film scores traditionally consist of instrumental music written by a composer and performed by an orchestra or group of musicians.

Your answer is what is your favorite score not soundtrack.

Yet when one looks at many scores, they will find the words "Original motion picture soundtrack" printed somewhere on the cover.

Man, no love for Braveheart in these lists?
Bruce Almighty

A film score contains music that was made exclusively for the movie while a soundtrack takes pre-existing songs. The Rocky III film score has Eye of the Tiger, so it doesn't have to be just music made by an orchestra.

Just outside my top 10. I would have added For the Love of a Princess.

I wasn't trying to point out that you are incorrect or anything. I think that's just how scores were considered years ago.

This one is a tough decision. I've probably listened to movie scores 90% of the time since I was 10 years old, when my dad bought the 2-LP Star Wars record. I listened to that like it was the end of the world. Curiously, I didn't get another such record until The Empire Strikes Back, and after that, I started getting albums from earlier movies that I enjoyed, such as Superman: The Movie and Alien. Yeah, I own some albums from groups like Rush, Styx, Boston, and Foreigner, but listening to those was a rare thing.

My favorite scores have 1 name in common - John Williams. So Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman: The Movie, The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Empire of the Sun, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ... all the way up to the Star Wars prequels and sequels. I could fill many such 10 track lists just from those scores alone.

But I'll go with an alternative list of music that I find myself listening to often, almost as often as anything from the GOAT.

No order.

Patton - Patton Theme (Jerry Goldsmith)
Midway (1976) - Midway Theme (John Williams)
Alien - The Landing (Jerry Goldsmith)
Conan the Barbarian - The Mountain of Power Procession (Basil Poledouris)
Dune (1984) - Desert Theme (Toto)
The Right Stuff - Yeager's Triump (Bill Conti)
Masters of the Air - Soar (Blake Neely)
Wyatt Earp - The Brothers Prepare/The Shootout (James Newton Howard)
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock - Klingons (James Horner)
The Pacific - With the Old Breed (Hans Zimmer)

Others that I could easily name:
The Pacific - Honor (Hans Zimmer)
Capricorn One - Break Out (Jerry Goldsmith)
Dunkirk - Supermarine (Hans Zimmer)
Empire of the Sun - The Plane (John Williams)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Ennio Morricone)
Hook - Remembering Childhood (John Williams)
Interstellar - No Time For Caution (Hans Zimmer)
The Patriot - The Patriot (John Williams)
Saving Private Ryan - Hymn to the Fallen (John Williams)
Superman: The Movie - Prelude and Main Title March (John Williams)
1941 - 1941 Main Title (John Williams)
Battle of Britain - Ace High March (Ron Goodwin)
Captain America: The First Avenger - "Rain Fire Upon Them" (Alan Silvestri)

These lists could go on for a while. My favorite is clearly John Williams. I love Zimmer's work as well and could have easily listed much more of his stuff - Man of Steel, Batman Versus Superman, Gladiator, etc. I don't see Jerry Goldsmith referenced on these such topics that often. That guy was a machine at churning out scores, and he could take on different "sounds" from project to project as Zimmer can. James Horner was great, although his scores tended to contain a lot of brass (Aliens, Star Trek II/III, Commando, even some of Titanic). I tried to include music in my lists from composers other than JW or HZ.

When I see lists that don't have any LotR score on them, it blows my mind. But then I remember that, according to Rotten Tomatoes, about 5% of people watch those movies and walk out thinking "That was a bad movie".
