Yes.

He's the book section at Target for television production.

Did not even know who he was when I watched a few episodes of Yellowstone. When he was in it doing that horse stopping stuff, I was like. This guy is horrible. Super narcissistic personality. Then I found out who hewas and was like, oh wow, now it makes sense.

Not quite. When he starts dressing up in drag in his own shows, then he'll be Perryesque.

Sheridan wrote Sicario, wind river, hell or high water, etc. 1883 and 1924 were excellent. Yellowstone is the only thing that went off the wheels on self indulgence. Comparing him to Madea is laughable.

Adam Sandler is probably our best comparison.

"What is not a damn thang!"

I've never laughed so hard at words coming out of Tom Hanks than that line

Ryan Murphy for the gay equivalent.

He's great, makes excellent movies and shows for the most part. That being said, I've only seen two episodes of Yellowstone and never resumed. But everything else you mentioned is phenomenal. I bet he'll put out at least a few more bangers.

He's is close but I think we need to go a bit more lowbrow.

I nominate Kevin James

This is hilarious. Wind River, Hell or High Water, Sicario, 1883 and 1923 are all vastly superior to the vast majority of content being pumped out in film and TV. And he bought the rights to Empire of the Summer Moon, so we may be getting another great flick or mini-series there...that doesn't sugar coat things.

If that comment is based solely on Yellowstone (which I have only seen first 2 eps of)...I would say it's a pretty fair and funny statement.

I will say that Hell or High Water is in my top 10 favorite movies ever. It's perfect.

But in the last few years, Paramount has become the Sheridan channel (Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown). All entertaining but it feels like the world has just handed him a blank check to make anything he can for us white folks. And he seems to try to insert himself into all of them somehow.

Adam Sandler is a solid vote though!

Yellowstone must be the most popular show that no one ever talks about in real life.

Though I did see this at a Hobby Lobby outside of Houston last year:

Their book selection included a good bit of Tim Tebow and Phil Robertson.

I'd argue Shonda Rimes is the Tyler Perry for white people. Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, are all shows that white women consume more than any other demographic.

Yeah but I've never heard of that person. I have heard of Sheridan because he insists that the world know he is involved in a project, much like Perry

I'm white and I don't know who that is.

So, no clue.

Just looked him up. I might've seen him in an Episode of NYPD blue 20 years ago or Party of 5 even longer ago, so, nope.

I guess i need to give Yellowstone a go.

It starts good, but the moment you tell yourself it's slipping, go ahead and stop there, because it's just downhill from there

I fell asleep during the first episode and haven't revisited.

Isn't that true with 75% of TV shows though?

This is just recency bias, and means you were not paying attention to pop culture for a bit.

Shonda Rhimes let everybody know what the was doing. As do most hit showrunners.

Mayor of Kingstown has been missed by a lot of folks, seriously intense show for anyone who's into crime/prison drama and Renner is awesome.

Glad there's a s3 in the works.

Like he puts his name in the credits of his own projects n stuff and sometimes makes a small appearance? Scorcese, Tarantino, Adam Sandler, etc etc etc would never think of doing such a thing.

The nerve...

Yellowstone started off great but jumped the shark and became laughable.
1883 was good but I hated the Elsa character.
I really enjoyed 1923.
Tulsa King is good as long as you don't take it too seriously.
Lioness was mindless entertainment.
Mayor of Kingstown is great and his best show IMO.
I haven't watched Bass Reeves yet.

Skip Yellowstone...I watched two episodes and just felt it wasn't my cup of tea...I couldn't stand anyone in that show.

Watch 1883, 1924, Hell or High Water, Sicario, and Wind River instead, as others have mentioned. To me, those are all EXCELLENT. I watch Hell or High Water probably a handful of times a year. This scene, while simple, never gets old.

I asked this question of a black friend of mine (why yes, I have black friends). His immediate answer was Wes Anderson.
