Dude was all the rage back in the early 2000s. Feels like he fell off the face of the Earth.

Sometimes a random actor will get popular and then people will realize they actually suck.

He was in the only episode of Black Mirror I watched this year.... one about cloned astronauts.

He's great in Lucky Number Slevin.

I think I remember reading something a while back about him getting burned out from Hollywood and just stepping away from it all.

Is this meant to be ironic since he's in the midst of his comeback year, or are you asking in the years before now?

This. It was an active decision on his part. He was offered Superman three times back in the day and turned it down. Dude just didn't want to be a star.

Well I guess that explains his early career/late '90s haircut.

I always figured that 40 days and 40 nights would have gotten him cancelled. While it was a pretty funny movie, there was technically a male rape that occurred in a comedy of all things.

Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, and Ben Kingsley. Kind of has a Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang kind of vibe. Half gangster movie, half neo-noir.

James Van Der Beek moved his wife and his six blonde kids to Texas. He took a look at Hollywood and said, "I, don't want, your life."

People decide to step away from it sometimes.

Is it me or is this a really random thread to start now and not in 2021? Since Lucky Number Slevin/30 Days of Night he hadn't really been in anything noticeable other than Penny Dreadful until his recent run of Wrath of Man, Opearation: Fortune, and Oppenheimer.

Im guessing this is facetious, since Hartnett is currently enjoying a run of popularity he hasn't had since the early 00s. Oppenheimer showed a depth I didn't know he had and he was the best part of Operation Fortune.

pretty sure the "heart throb" Jake from SIXTEEN CANDLES

moved to Pennsylvania and became a woodmaker rather than be a star in Hollywood

mad props to anyone who can turn down fame and money to have a quiet life.

if you look at his IMDB, he really didn't stop acting, just stopped being front and center after around 2007.

From 1998-2023, he has a movie every year except '12,16, 18, and 22.

I really liked Wrath of Man, although he was probably 4th or 5th lead in that at best.

Regarding fame, Hartnett has said, "I know what it's like to be in that whole world. I was up there for a couple of years, and it was uncomfortable. I think trying to stay at the top is a shortcut to unhappiness." Hartnett took a 15-month break from acting, saying "I spent a bit of time really thinking about whether this was the right thing for me."

The oldest daughter from Ms Doubtfire as well.

I think it was the only movie she ever made.

Went to college, got married, and lives a quiet life in somewhere in the NE.

Said she decided she didn't want that life.
