In my opinion it goes:

1st Half - 2001 (although 2000 is a close 2nd)
2nd Half - 2005

My answer is 2002 because LOTR: Two Towers backpacks everything else from that year across the finish line.

03, 02, 01 in that order. 02 just a hair behind 03.

Man, 05-09 were not great. Winner probably 2001 for me, but I could make a case for any of 01-04.

If I'm going just by the top 5, 2001. 2003 has my favorite movie of the decade though (Master and Commander).

Fast and Furious was 2001 I think which helps

Yes, this is mainly just based on the top 5 in box office not everything else. Pretty much what I'm trying to get at is the best year for blockbusters. That's my mistake for not saying that in the topic title.

Based solely on BO I'd say 2001 with the birth of 5 big franchises

I go 01, 03, 04, 02, 00.

01, 03, and 04 are very solid top to bottom.

2000 - MI2 is not a good movie. Never saw Dinosaur.
2002 - Attack of the Clones is really bringing down the average. MIB2 is fine.

Everything in the second half has at least one movie I'd consider a turd.

Definitely the first half of the decade, with the three Lord of the Rings movies, a couple of Spider-Man movies, and a Star Wars movie.

I'm sick of the MI:2 hate. We need an official MI:2 debate thread.
