I can sit down and watch the prequels any time. They are clearly superior to the sequel trilogy, although I do love TFA.

OP needs a little refresher course on the movie. Here is a 7 part documentary on it.

I saw SW: A New Hope at 10 yo, perfect (targeted) age and have been a huge fan until the recent dumpster firing of Star Wars by Disney (a.k.a. White Slavers).
It was great to see my 8 year old son have his own set of Star Wars movies after watching the original trilogy with me and his younger sister many times. I believe my daughter always liked the original trilogy more.
TPM was an intro movie to a known Trilogy from the outset. It had to set everything up. It did that and had some of the best fight scenes with Maul and the Pod Racing was pretty cool. Lucas can do some cringe dialog, but that is to be expected. It did its job and was a fun watch.

I will say I really did like this poster.

I also enjoyed getting destroyed by my son in the Pod Racer game.

I take the politics in the prequels over what the sequels did, all day.

The sequels destroy the galactic capital, along with a handful of other planets, and we never so much as see the capital once before it's destroyed. We never hear about how the new Senate works, or why the First Order wants to take over, or how exactly the system is broken or corrupt.

At the very least, get us to care when multiple planets are destroyed.

It's a lose/lose situation, but it should've been Coruscant they destroyed. I hate the decision either way, and that would've felt like yet another middle finger to the prequels by JJ, but at least would've made me care.
Agreed and what functioning controlling Government names their army "The Resistance?"

Hot take: Most of the Star Wars movies range from bad to mediocre.

New Hope: mediocre
Strikes Back: very good
Return of Jedi: mediocre
Phantom Menace: bad
Clones: bad
Sith: mediocre
Force Awakens: good
Last Jedi: bad
Rise of Skywalker: bad

Rogue One: very good
Solo: good

Now I've seen everything.

New Hope: mediocre
yet you consider its essential remake, TFA, as good?

Agreed. And I got a good chuckle at this.

We can at least agree on ROTJ and Rogue One.

ROTJ - Mediocre movie at best, with high highs (Luke vs Vader), but very low lows. (Literally everything on Endor)

Well the Resistance was an initiative by Leia and not really sanctioned by the New Republic. Of course, this is information that is never made clear except in books and other ancillary material...

I have clear memories of this poster displayed at Cinemark, because of how intriguing it was.

At 10-11, I wasn't a particularly big Star Wars fan, had just a passing knowledge, but I completely understood the significance of seeing the origin story of such an iconic villain.

One of the best teaser posters of all time.

The only star wars movie I haven't finished. I started it when it dropped on Disney+ and with like 30-40 minutes left I was like, "nah....I'm out."

I'm not a fan of the sequel trilogy, but those movies are way more watchable than the prequels, IMO. I seriously don't understand how people can rewatch the prequels, unless you were a kid when they came out and it's purely out of nostalgia. Otherwise, they don't even feel like real movies to me, and are just overall mind numbing in their execution.

I've said this before, but to me the prequels are a far superior story executed horribly, while the sequels are a way worse story made competently if not expertly at times. The sequel filmmaking itself just blows away anything in the prequels, but the prequel story has so much more potential. If we could somehow combine the story of the prequels with the filmmaking of the sequels, then we'd really have something.

Remind us, again, why studios should be bending over backwards to pay writers more?

Agreed, the origin of the resistance would be nice to know about and let me know why I should care about what weirdass voice Leia had up her sleeve.

Instead, we got Rose Tico.

Rose Tico makes non-canon Cindel Towani (of Ewoks movies) look like *********Marlon Brando.

I think the people that don't like Return of the Jedi are those who haven't seen the ordinal movie, only the special edition with all the stupid crap in it, like that song and dance number in Jabbas Palace.

The original trilogy plus Rogue One are great. Everything else is just fan fiction.

As bad as the prequels are, if they are on tv, I'll watch them for a little bit every now and then. The sequels I haven't seen since the theater and have no interest in ever watching again.

Eh, it's kinda cool, but it's not nearly as cool or exciting at the podrace.

I have seen both versions of ROTJ. Special Edition is actually superior. Because Yub Nub sucks.
Brian Earl Spilner

For me, this is the easiest way to show my feeling on the sequels.

I am a card-carrying Star Wars fan that has attended Celebration, a fan of physical media, a completionist, AND have mild ADD about organization.

I have every Star Wars movie on DVD/Blu-ray, plus Rogue One... except for TROS. And yet, even with everything I laid out above, I have never even considered buying it to complete the set.
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry, but no. There is not a single redeeming quality about TROS. Not a-one. It's not more watchable than any prequel.

I'll give you TFA and maybe even TLJ, even though I still disagree with you on both counts. But that's just our own preferences.

TROS is objectively ***** And yes, I'm being facetious since I've given you a hard time about saying stuff like that. But also, I'm kinda not.
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Even the emotional high point in TROS (Kylo talking to Han's ghost) bugged me even in the moment, because regular people don't get force ghosts.

Oh, I'm just a memory? Bull***** You killed the character, you don't get to bring him back as an easy button. Stick to your guns and leave him dead.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I can't stand TROS and actively hate most of it. I'm simply saying that aspects of the FILMMAKING - the acting, the cinematography, the pacing, the effects, etc - are miles better than anything in the prequels. On a purely technical level. The story and the writing in TROS are obviously complete sh*t, though, and worse than anything in the prequels.

This sounds like something a person that works in the movie industry would say, and I don't mean that in a bad way. You watch movies differently than 90% of us that post on this board. You notice and care about things that most of us don't notice or care about. Most of us would rather have a good story that's lacking in execution than a bad story that is made well. It's just like music. When I hear a song, I either like it or I don't and I can't always explain why. A person that knows a lot about music will tell me a song that I like sucks because of X,Y and Z and my response is "that's great, I still like the song."
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed on TC's point. If you'd taken Lucas' outlines for the prequel trilogy, had a better screenwriter do the scripts, gotten three directors, and made those movies, with everything else unchanged (actors, art design, music, locations, story, etc), they'd be all-timers.

Hell, I'll take it further. If you take the exact same three scripts, and literally only bring in a better "actor's director" who could polish the dialogue as they filmed, you'd have some great movies.

A lot of the sequels looking better is just due to an extra decade of advancement in CGI and digital film technology. (Which was mainly advanced by Lucas, to his credit.)

If OT fans are gonna dish out the "nostalgia goggles" criticism, they need to take it as well.

That song sucks. The Ewoks are lame as hell, and when you're celebrating a galaxy-wide victory over the Empire, a bunch of teddy bears singing some crappy campfire song just isn't gonna do it.

You need a big, sweeping, triumphant score for that, and even Lucas recognized that.

The critiques are fair, but I love it. And the N64 game.

I like both the pod race and the speeders on Endor.

Yub Nub is great though. Nowhere did I say that the "grand galactic scheme" should be included. Is there a fan video anywhere of the redone ending with Yub Nub attached instead musically?
