With Oppenheimer imminent, what's everyone's consensus on where Nolan's films rank (as a director)? For me, I seem to only ever like his movies more with additional time and viewings. My personal list is below, and I'm impressed by how tight they are grouped in my head.

Inception
The Dark Knight
Interstellar
Dunkirk
Tenet
Memento
Batman Begins
The Prestige
Insomnia
The Dark Knight Rises

Inception as #1 is really the only thing that's not flexible for me, though I feel like I could make an argument for any of TDK, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Tenet and Memento are WTF am I watching experiences that age better with time. Batman Begins was such a fresh take that was everything I wanted in a Batman movie. The Prestige and Insomnia are both excellent films as well.

I'll bite with what may be a slightly controversial take:

1. Interstellar
2. The Dark Knight
3a. Tenet
3b. Inception
5. Dunkirk
6. The Prestige
7. Memento
8. Batman Begins
9. The Dark Knight Rises
10. Insomnia (default only because I've never seen it)

I was surprised with Interstellar and The Prestige being this low on RT.

Nolan is one of my favorite directors. Disappointed with Tenet but need to watch it again. Tough to rank his films but I will say that Tenet is probably the weakest and Dunkirk is the one most often underrated. That belongs on the short list of his greatest works and often falls in the middle. Just my humble opinion.

Also need to watch Interstellar again. It's been a few years. Don't care for the ending at all and I always end the movie feeling like it should be more. It's the last taste in your mouth and so I leave feeling more negative than I should. The rest of the movie is great though.

FWIW I even liked Tenet. I like when a director really goes for it, even if it doesn't quite land.
Corporal Punishment

Save for Heath Ledger, I don't get the love for Batman.
Brian Earl Spilner

Save for one of the best villain portrayals of all time?

My issue with that sentiment (I generally would agree) is that the actors have stated they didn't understand it as they were filming it. If they don't get it how tf is the audience supposed to get it?

My list:
Inception
Interstellar
The Dark Knight
The Prestige
Tenet
Batman Begins
Oppenheimer(where I would place this after one viewing)
The Dark Knight Rises
Memento
Dunkirk
Insomnia

For some reason I like his Sci-fi pieces more than his historical stuff(I count the Prestige as Sci-fi given the transportation machine). Maybe because his ideas are always fresh for the Sci-fi bits. Tenet is similar to Interstellar in that it gets better with each viewing, I would recommend that anyone that did not like or lukewarm about it to see it again. Also I had Dunkirk so low because the movie actually needed CGI just to show how litered and exposed all 400k men were, there were far too few extras to sell it, now it's something that constantly bugs me when I rewatch it.

If Nolan tried to explain midichlorians everyone in the theater would have an aneurysm

Wish he would make a Bond film.

Of the Batmans I love Dark Knight Rises the most. Not sure why but that's the one in the series I can watch repeatedly. Sure Ledger and Dark Knight was great but I just prefer III.

Begins was my favorite but I still give TDK credit for being the better movie.

The third one is the most fun one even if it's not as good as the other two.

Great thread and a pretty hard ranking.

Interstellar - as a father of a girl, this one hits different than the others. It is even better on rewatches
Batman Begins - Batman is my favorite comic book character and he makes you believe he could be real
The Dark Knight - best villain portrayal ever
Inception - mindf action thriller #1
Tenet - mindf action thriller #2
Dark Knight Rises - only thing holding this one back for me is Hardy's prison speech and "that" death scene
Dunkirk - gripping thriller, but I'm not a huge war movie guy
Memento - I need to rewatch this one. Loved it the first time and curious how it hits when you know the ending
Prestige - loved this when I first saw it, but my least favorite and rewatchable

Each of these is separated by a tiiiiny margin because they're all so good. The top 6 I would rewatch at any time they're so good.

I haven't seen Insomnia In a long time, but don't remember it at all and I've never heard of Following until now. Hoping to catch Oppenheimer this week.

Has anyone actually seen Following? It's kinda like how nobody's seen James Cameron's first movie Piranha 2.

Has a criterion blu ray release. Only like 70 minutes long and low budget. Honestly shouldn't be compared to the others but if it's included it's at or near the bottom of his filmography. Glad to have it in the collection though.

Ditto.

Also didn't love Dunkirk, which a lot of people tend to rank pretty high.

Haven't seen Insomnia, Tenet, or Oppenheimer yet. Love the rest of his movies.

Will see Oppenheimer soon. Once I do that maybe I'll make my list here. Been too long since I've seen a couple of them though.
