Not reading thread to avoid spoilers. What's the consensus on this one? Really good, worth the time, or meh, kinda wish you never started it?
I would say "worth the time" so far, but that will depend on how they wrap it. Wait a couple weeks

I think the guy with the tattoos on his neck across the aisle from the doctor's family is going to come into play at some point. They keep making a point to show him. It's subtle but they make sure we see him.
I think he will come into play as helping the other passengers fight off the hijackers as I believe they made a reference to him as having special forces training or something during one of the first couple of episodes but don't care enough to hunt it down.

I agree he definitely will play a larger role. They also make sure to show the bearded guy every once in a while so my mastermind theory is still in play.
He was the one of the few passengers on board that had a criminal record when they did background checks. I think they said he was recently released from prison for some kind of violent crime. I think he'll play a role in overcoming the hijackers.

He was the guy that helped Elba when he got in a fight in the back of the plane. He's also the guy that gave the rubicks cube to the kid. I think they are showing he's a good guy, but gave him a backstory so the viewer knows he can handle himself when SHTF.

Regarding mastermind....possible, but for sure is playing some kind of role. When the lead hijacker swapped his blanks for real bullets; didn't the real bullets come out of bearded guy's bag? Him being late to the plane doesn't make any sense, though.

The only explanation I can think of is he purposefully was late to the flight knowing the protocols he very likely wouldn't be allowed on the plane, he just wanted his bag with real ammunition to make it.

He didn't anticipate the airline breaking protocol to allow him on the flight so now he's stuck, he can't just make a big production about getting on the plane and then when they say it's OK be like, no, actually I don't want to get on (red flags go up immediately).

The biggest issue with this is if he's such a mastermind why even take the chance they would let you on the flight knowing there's a possibility it could get shot down.

Maybe he's being manipulated the same way the hijackers are.

3 episodes in and really enjoying it so far.

I'm still trying to figure out the motive for both the hijackers and the protagonist.

My wife figured out that there are 7 episodes and it's a 7 hour flight from Dubai to London so... it's kind of like "24" in that events take place in real time.

Also, it was doing my head in so I finally had to IMDB the Brit ATC gal and figured out that I recognized her from Torchwood.

Also recognized one of the ladies from the series Shetland.

In Shetland, do you remember when the main character had a love interest who was a lawyer from Glasgow or something. Been a few years since I watched it. In Shetland, I think she was supposed to be Pakistani.

In Hijack EP6, she's one of the main British Government people making decisions about what to do. She the one who the cop contacted about terrorism concerns.

Archie Panjabi is the name of the actress.

Edit: Wait a minute. I didn't know there was more Shetland after 2019. I'll have to figure out who has it.

I'm behind on Hijack so I might not have seen her. Only kind of remember the love interest for DI Perez. Shetland is only on Britbox now. Series ended after s6 I think.

The longer this show goes on the more infuriating it gets lol.

They spend the whole episode preparing for this moment, then nobody does anything. They have 1 guy that takes action and nobody will help.

The sleeper agent lady has time to get up, go in the bathroom, get the gun, walk up and shoot the pilot. How does the pilot not get up and lock himself in the cockpit during that?

The police/gov are useless. First they let an old lady in slippers outrun them, now they don't even consider that losing visual in the forest could be a problem.
HollywoodBQ
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The mum in a robe outrunning the coppers was the worst police chase of all time.

I knew there would be a sleeper bad guy (or gal) on the plane, it just wasn't who I thought it would be. The hijackers were so incompetent, there had to be a Professional on board.

The reason the Captain didn't take action was that he was thinking with his Johnson again. What he should have done was grab his love interest and take her into the cockpit with him.

Only 60 minutes left.

IMO, the person we've all been led to believe is a sleeper is probably a red herring who was forced to do what what they did.

Yeah I really thought it would be the bearded guy and I noticed they showed him being all concerned when they were about to shake things up so he likely still comes into play.

One thing I thought about the two prisoners released...if they could plan all this that well with this many contingencies and double switches in the plane and on the ground...how the hell did they ever get caught in the first place lol.

Had sky high hopes for this series, but it's really nosedived.

Maybe the finale will get it back on course and stick the landing.

Couldn't agree more. Just can't get past the snarling overacting by every one of the anatagonists. So tiresome.

This isn't a bad show but I'm glad there's one more episode. I'm pot committed at this point so I'll see it through, but just can't see myself watching another season. (whatever that would look like).

I like it, but definitely some WTF moments. Like how does Idris Elba get overpowered by an old dude and a frumpy other dude? James Bond my ass.

I also have to rewind a ton when they start their British mumbling.

Well they ended it about as ridiculously as they started it.

How did Amanda's daughter get saved? She is able to talk to her daughter but there is no way they located her in time to take out any bad guys that would be holding her before the plane landed. They just barely got to Sam's son.

Great police work getting a stealthy 911 call from an apartment and just leaving when a guy in full cleaning outfit answers the door lol. Those cleaners just being all 'whelp this guy says we gotta leave the apartment, better march our hostage at gunpoint out now' was just gold.

The final showdown between Idris and the hijacker was ridiculous. Really all you sent to the people at the airport was descriptions? No pictures?

My two biggest complaints were 1) the scene when the murderous hitmen got caught by just walking their hostage outside at gun point 2) the British-ness.

I don't understand why shows use British storylines or characters so frequently. They are impossible to understand. It's not as if this was a BBC show they put on American tv. It was created by apple. Just do it with Americans.

Talk about shoe-horning drama at the end that was completely forced and silly and the "smile for the camera" ending was total cheese.

What a waste. Plus I love how the cell phone loses connection for the drama and then miraculously reconnects, how convenient. Oh well.

I hope Idris Elba made a lot of money because that series was embarrassing.

My favorite part of the finale was when she disengaged the autopilot then proceeded to use the autopilot to descend to 3000 feet. Yeah I'm an aviation nerd. But come on. They were doing reasonably well on that front til the end.

That was so ridiculous. I was ready for the detective to show his bonafides by tricking the hitmen, not with the lame evacuation bit, which they should NEVER fall for in a million years, but by tricking them in another way and taking those *******s out.

It would have provided a cathartic release to see those two get killed and also added some much needed fireworks to the finale. Instead they stupidly get ambushed by a bunch of swat guys...yay? Such an anti-climatic ending with Idris and the silly "smile for the camera" bit at the end.

So they still have the 1st mate on board, but decide to put Idris Elba in the cockpit rather than the person that knows how to fly the damn plane?

Why did the pilot not casually walk into the cockpit when he had the chance with no one around to stop him?

Why did we do this prolonged scene of everyone preparing to fight, just to have basically two people fight while everyone else watches?

Why the hell is Idris Elbas son just walking around the apartment casually when one of the cleaners is answering the door when he knows there are two?

Why does the cop leave the house that made a distressed 911 call without ever talking with the owner?

What did the cleaners think would happen when they walked out the son at gunpoint just because someone asked them to leave?

The British govt just says "eff it, let the hijackers fly over central London" and kill more people?

The cops don't receive pictures of the hijackers?

The plan relies on a mother with no combat or flight training to casually walk into the cockpit and fly the plane?

They just let that mother take off despite murdering the pilot? As if no one is going to rat her out?

God this show was terrible.

And as others have said, they don't wrap up the storyline with the two escaped prisoners, just that one double-crossed the other, who was too greedy. So I guess we're OK with letting one of the convicts escape...ok lovely.

Yeah but if it was Americans, you couldn't just "send in the SAS".

Plus you couldn't have a strong Black American lead unless it was Wesley Snipes or Denzel. And you couldn't have low level White thugs who have the wherewithal to get passports and travel to Dubai to get the thing started, but who are so dumb they ignore ATC communication.

In other words, we have nukes and F-15s, plus 9/11 happened here. You're not going to get within 100 miles of a major American city after being unresponsive on the radio for 6 hours.

Plus, it was nice to have a story line where regular White criminals were the hijackers. I don't think we've seen that type of thing since Hans Gruber fell off the Nakatomi Plaza.

And a nice change of pace, there weren't any forced "pride" themes. There wasn't some secretly gay repressed Emirati who becomes the hero.

The ending had all kinds of problems but, that's kind of to be expected with a British show. They don't like to drag shows out for extra seasons.

I really wanted to like this show because of Idris but, yeah, it was really bad.

Does Idris have the worst agent in Hollywood? I think he's great and has so much potential to do really cool/interesting work, but he's doing this and that lion movie. So much wasted potential

Man I was really hoping Sam ended up being the bad guy! As the episode went on I noticed they kept referring to "the deal" and he always said he helped people make deals. Thought they might have made that connection when he went back into the plane. His eerie texts to his wife, the look from the detective in the rear view - hell I thought the wife and son might have been in on it. Wouldn't have made any sense but would have been more entertaining than "smile for the camera"!

Just an odd ending. A lot of loose ends. Little things like not even showing us or reminding us what was in the bag he went back to get. The bizarre loss of fuel, power going out.

Was close to recommending the show to people but not after that finale.
