Is it just me, or does it seem like female rappers today sound like rappers from 15 years ago? All aggressive party and dance music. While the males have gotten way more emo and soft. At least in the most popular categories. Or am I just not listening to enough?

Like angry lyrically or in delivery?

I feel like several in the mainstream, like Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion, have aggressive deliveries, but aren't necessarily angry lyrically. To me, though, they seem little different from, say, Lil Kim back in the day. Lizzo, on the other hand, at least the songs my wife listens to, doesn't seem particularly angry or aggressive. Maybe it's the flute.

I'm pretty sure the emo rap you're referencing is much more of a subgenre that happens to be one of the more popular ones. There's plenty of other rappers who don't fall within that, it's just what's hot, so you see a lot more.

Of course, I'm not an expert on rap by any means, but that's my takeaway from what I've seen. It's kind of like the no good country argument...there's always plenty different to find if you go looking for it.

Female rap is so over saturated now. The flood gates have been open

Female rap is terrible. The flood gates have been opened, and need to be closed.
