I agree with most of the aforementioned. I'll throw Appaloosa, McClintock, Shane and The Three Burials of Melquides Estrada into the mix.

For a Few Dollars More > The Good, the Bad and the Ugly? Am I crazy? (Haven't seen the former in 20 years so could easily be wrong)

I watched the remake of True Grit with Bridges and Damon this afternoon....really enjoyed it!

I'm a huge fan of All the Pretty Horses (and I need to read the Border Trilogy).

I enjoyed The Ballad of Lefty Brown, not my favorite but worth watching. I thought The Power of the Dog got too dark and weird....and In the Valley of Violence was eh.

Could also put Dances with Wolves and Hostiles on this list

I'm a huge JW fan but I liked Bridges/Coen Brothers True Grit way more and I loved the Dukes versions

Rio Bravo - The Duke at his best with Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, Angie Dickenson & Ricky Nelson. My all time favorite western.

Mine, too.

A little drinkin', a little singin', and a little shootin'.

I love "Tombstone."

And I thought "1883" was extremely well done ... a focused look at the people who gave up everything to settle the west. Most westerns start and end in the west and ignore what it took for people to get there.

I had misgivings about Tim McGraw and Faith Hill but they did a good job.

The Salvation
Silverado
The Longriders
Never Grow Old

Wind River
The Wild Bunch
Major Dundee

Well, it's a remake of Kurosawa's "Sanjuro", so it's got that going for it, and while not as good as the original it is still a great film, IMO.

I have not seen this movie mentioned, but I've always enjoyed Nevada Smith. Steve McQueen and revenge.

I think we're due for another good Western.
I don't personally count anything related to Yellowstone as good or western

How would you catagorize 1883, if not a western? Just an action drama?

a soap opera

Let's go really West, The Man from Snowy River

Yellowstone is 100% an action soap opera but I strongly disagree that 1883 is in the same category at all. There is one very main character and a very singular, straight forward story arch with several supporting characters in that same arch.

Lots of great ones mentioned so far.

I'll add: Hostiles

Movies, Shows, Mini-series....Im putting together a list to sit down and watch....let's hear'em

I'll start with the low hanging fruit....

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Tombstone
Lonesome Dove
1883
The English
Watched the English about a month ago. It felt like a great series - then the last few episodes and the editors must have gotten really high. I had to rewind a couple of times to try and figure out something that I missed that was a critical turning point. No - they just let you infer it.

Godless on Netflix.

Jeff Daniels is the biggest name, but there are a few others that you'd recognize. Most amazing western series I have ever seen. Put it up against anything else listed here.

Close second is Open Range

If Rio Bravo is your favorite then it seems like El Dorado should be your second favorite.

Been mentioned already but Lonesome Dove which is really a Mini Series IMO is one of the best all time in my book.
