By the way, anyone paying attention noticed that the theme of identity was raised in both episode one and 2.
I think the ultimate fate of our characters will be tied to that theme and why I thought in episode 1 the owner was Goggins' dad, and why one of the sons is likely gay. Both now raised by others here so not spoiling anything. And then the idea of how much wealth is tied to identify for Parker and her husband, plus some other things I'm still milling in my head around Greg.

And just for fun.

I did find it weird that Isaac's character was calling a secretary at a law firm saying he needs a lawyer. Someone of that wealth would already have a lawyer, and likely have direct access to them.

Maybe his (or the company's ) lawyer is the one that got him into the mess. It is a TV show where a hotel chain with a history of multiple deaths/murders, drug use, robberies, etc., is still in operation

His lawyer probably knows it is a losing case and does not want to take it on.

My instant thought was his attorney is not taking Isaac's calls thus to frantic outreach to the secretary.

First 2 episodes have been super slow. Hope it starts picking up.

Seasons 1 and 2 were off to a better start

The season is really missing the lead hotel employee like they had with Armond and the Italian lady the first two seasons. I could absolutely do without Schwarzenegger's character too.
I wondered if that was an intentional choice by White. Armond and Valentina were such strong presences in the first two seasons that maybe he decided to make the new manager so innocuous that he almost vanishes off the screen, even in the scenes he's in. In doing that, he gives the lesser staff more room to cook. Maybe...

None of the characters are very likable. At least not yet.

And this season seems to really be lacking the comedic elements that the first 2 seasons had.

I agree with both, but the past seasons is giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Yep. Just not very funny at all so far. The staff is lame. Belinda is lame (why bring back the lamest season 1 character whose main role was being the straight for Jennifer Coolidge to play off of?) The family just weird and annoying vs I loved the season 1 fam. The 3 women are doing a good job being backstabby catty biches.

I do like Goggins girlfiend, but Goggins character is going pretty heavy with the "Ben Affleck having a smoke on the porch" approach.

Absolutely LOVED the first two seasons. It's not bad, but it's hard to keep creating gold. But there is still plenty of opportunity

We're two episodes into an eight episode season. That, and I don't remember the first two seasons being laugh riots, or much funnier than what we're getting here so far. I remember cracking up at "Grandpa was a power bottom!" from season one, and otherwise chuckling here and there, but that was about it. Yes, this season seems a bit darker, and yes, slightly slower, but again… it's a longer season than any season previously. Otherwise, personally, I'm loving the various groups/dynamics so far, and can't wait to see where it's all headed.

Steve Zahn killed it in season 1. The conversation he has with Daddario at the pool about his marriage. The dynamic between the girls and the brother, the girls and Armond about their pills, and Zahn with pretty much anyone. So great. Armond was fantastic too. Coolidge on the boat with the newlyweds.

There is time which I already posted.

We're missing young(er) T&A. That's the main difference. Seeing Sweeney/DD in season 1 and 2 little Italian minxes running around in season 2 added more fun to the early part of the season. This year is a bit of a reversal of age dynamic.

But I'm fine with it. If it is still slow in 2 more episodes I'll get worried.

Didn't realize this season is 8 episodes. That's encouraging, since the first 2 episodes have felt a little slow

A fantastic Bill Simmons interview just dropped with Dave Bernad, executive producer of The White Lotus. So many great, behind-the-scenes stories/gems/tidbits/etc. It also sounds like season three is going to go in some unpredictable directions, while season four is teased a bit as well. Such an interesting and informative interview all around, starting at the 1:11:47 mark...

This is were I'm at. It's been slow in advancing the plot. What gives me comfort is it has not been slow in building setups. Lots of building in the tension between the 3 cougars, the entire Ratliff family is a complete WTF and could go so many and probably disturbing ways (drugs, incest, fraud ect.). The staff - an inside robbery, unrequited love, that's going somewhere. Then there's Rick & Chelsea - is Rick out for murder or revenge against the hotel owner or is it something? We know he's planning to go to Bangkok soon. Belinda and Greg are bound for some interaction, who knows what direction that takes. It's White Lotus so there has to be several combination of sex between these groups characters and story lines. I'm confident the pace will pick up soon.

I live in South Carolina and my girlfriend's family friends own Gippy Plantation in Moncks Corner where they film some of the Gemstone family property. The wife is in a feud with some of the Southern Charm folks so I have had to listen to some of it. I am not a fan of Parker Posey's accent.

Yep, several story threads that appears are starting to cook. Think the ride is just getting started. Just hope there are some real surprised along the way and it doesn't just emulate all of the current predictions.

I'm perfectly fine with it. I think I hate everyone except for the security guard and the masseuse from season 1.

Oh hi, mfbarnes, "the hardest working man in oil".

Not sure what Michelle Monaghan has to do with Bridget Moynahan. But you were probably too busy trolling to be able to tell the difference.

Great contribution though, per usual.

That's because she's doing a North Carolina not a South Carolina accent.

I think she's doing amazing. I think some people aren't a fan because she's hitting a little too close to the addicts.

Mike White modeled the family after Southern Charm and had the actors binge watch the show.

They did. Durham and Chapel Hill are both less than 250 miles from the start of the low country in South Carolina and less than 300 from Charleston. Even then, people don't really talk like that.

I think everyone has high opinions of the first couple seasons but forgets the slog they were to get through at first. Seemingly not much of a plot at all until you get to the 3rd or 4th episode. Until then it's just a bunch of characters with very few redeeming qualities being miserable to each other.

So far I'd say season 3 is right on the mark.

Agreed - in that interview with Bill Simmons posted above. The producer talked a bit about the pacing. He said the pacing of this season is the same pacing as the past seasons. The first several episodes are all setup and character development.
