The fact that multiple people are wondering if it is a plot point speaks to just how distracting it is.
He nailed it overall, but in that first scene he sounded VERY British.StinkyPinky said:
Well, the accents are much more than just a conversation here. It's all over reddit and other forums people complaining its such a hodge podge. Best part is though everyone of these discussions is attended by several from North Carolina and they are impressed that he nails their very regional and specific dialect. Don't think it's a plot point either, but you never know with this show.
Agreed, but I thought I heard more of a New Zealand accent (bad Australian accentRudyjax said:He nailed it overall, but in that first scene he sounded VERY British.StinkyPinky said:

You know, you're right. I looked the actor up to see if he was actually Austrailian.StinkyPinky said:Agreed, but I thought I heard more of a New Zealand accent (bad Australian accentRudyjax said:He nailed it overall, but in that first scene he sounded VERY British.StinkyPinky said:

Discussing it is not getting worked up about it, Chachi.Quinn said:
I think yall are getting way too worked up about the accent too, but maybe it will play a role in this season? Who knows, I don't think so, but we will find out.
I'll be curious if Greg has any connection to any of the other characters there or if his story is self contained with Belinda.
Everyone I know that went to Duke is not from North Carolina.Goldie Wilson said:
So the running stereotype is that nobody from NC actually goes to Duke. The local kids go to UNC, NCSU, etc while Duke is full of kids from the NE, California, international, etc.
Until the show presents anything to the contrary, this will be my headcanon duct tape for why his accent is all over the place. He was an international student attending Duke who met a UNC girl one night out on Franklin Street (UNC's Northgate) and he decided to stick around.

I do like the fact or resident hollywood expert is telling us we are dumb for being distracted by bad acting and bad editing (if not a plot point.)
Back in the day my favorite things was to watch the commentary on DVD of movies i loved and the actors almost always pointed out things in their peformance they didn't like .
He's going to feel really stupid if it is a plot point though. I'm not becuase i was spitballing and assumed it had to be because it was so obvious.

If you're editing a tv show, and you hear that someone sounds really bad, you get them to do ADR and fix it.TCTTS said:Rudyjax said:

Bad editing? What does editing have to do with accents?
Also, I never said anyone was being dumb for being distracted. I said it's dumb how much the distraction is dominating this thread, when there's all kinds of other plot points, characters, symbolism, etc we could also be discussing.
Finally, I'll bet anyone here $100 the accents aren't a plot point (in terms of the characters being "undercover").

I don't think you know what the term "policing" means.
I'm merely pointing out/laughing at how dumb, hilarious, and overbearing this conversation is.
There's a big difference.
But sure, go with that tired, cliched narrative.

You're literally calling me out about a topic of conversation you yourself could ignore as well.
It's a message board.
People express opinions.
Which we all get annoyed with from time to time. Just like you are now. Just like I did when I chose to laugh at the turn the conversation was taking.
None of that is "policing."
It's just everyday talk.

Loved the Greg sighting as well. Adds a whole other layer of intrigue to this season.
No clue yet who the body is or who the killer is, but I legit do love the idea of a monkey getting a hold of a gun and just going nuts at some point. Otherwise, we saw the two body guards with guns, but that feels like a red herring. Or maybe they're involved in a shoot out, but not *the* killer(s).
As of now, overall, the two theories I like the most are:
1) The one I posted/linked to earlier, with the Ratliff's being a blended family. Jason Isaacs and Patrick Schwarzenegger on one side, Parker Posey and the other two kids on the other.
2) The owner of the hotel's husband (who we only see pictures of, played by Scott Glenn) being Walton Goggins' dad, with Goggins trying to track him down for money. Something along those lines.

Why the hell would they get rid of the theme song?

Goggins is a contract killer, hired by Greg, to take out the husband of the owner. Greg can then swoop in and wife up/con the widow and end up with his own White Lotus.
