They are just weird and ****ed up like most everyone else on this show

Good start. I do find ALL characters cringy. But in a good way that fits the show. We are missing the Sweeney/Daddario eye candy and wish Armond would make another appearance. Season 1 characters were awesome.
Armond is dead. How would he come back?

Haven't finished the first episode, but I think Walt got new teeth that fit his mouth better.

Man I thought Jason Isaacs accent was fantastic. I have good friends who went to UNC and that's exactly how they talk.
REally? in the first conversation he sounded very British. It got better.Sex Panther said:

Maybe it will come out that he is British but moved to NC in high school.

I agree with you and the other poster who said he was all over the place. I thought in his opening lines his British accent was coming through too much but since then he nailed the southern accent with the funny annunciation of vowels. He is a great actor, he plays the dark character so well.
You could, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't watch the other seasons. Season 1 was outstanding! There are plot points you are missing but don't appear to be so major that it would cloud the storyline for you.DG-Ag said:
Can you watch the seasons independently? Meaning, could I watch season 3 without having watched any of the prior 2 seasons all the way through?
Two different characters from previous seasons have already appeared in the first episode of this season. It's fun (and maybe important?) to know these character's backstory...but probably not essential.DG-Ag said:

Great first episode.
Only complaint is they fumbled the credits song. The first two seasons were absolute bangers.
‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 debuted to 2.4 million viewers on its premiere night.

If you watch closely this perfectly identifies their characters in the first episode.#TheWhiteLotus pic.twitter.com/W5xHy124dO
The accents were a mess. Isaacs was all over the road. Maybe it's a plot point or maybe it's just a Costner-in-Robin-Hood sort of thing. Either way it's incredibly distracting.TCTTS said:
Finally able to watch the first episode, and was looking forward to diving into 35+ comments of discussion after, only to discover it's almost exclusively people *****ing about accents.
Good Lord, who cares?
That said, I'm with Sex Panther... while Isaacs usually overdoes it in the American accent department, I thought he was surprisingly spot on here. That, and Posey sounds exactly like a Carolina mom I know. I don't get what the big deal is with either.
As for the rest of the episode, the getting off the boat and being introduced to each group in rapid, expository succession bit had me wondering if Mike White lost his fastball, but the rest of the episode was a great, slow-burn setup for our longest season yet at eight episodes, with plenty of room/potential ahead. I don't know if it'll top season two for me, but Greg was an awesome surprise and I like how everything else is playing out so far as well. Loving the setting too, and excited to see where it all goes.

The accent has to be a plot point.
It was so obviously off that no competent editor or director doesn't catch something like that.

Ratliffe family theory
I've seen some theories floating around on here that their story is based on the Peterson Family / The Staircase where two of the children were adopted and had the last name Ratliffe. All the similarities seem a little too coincidental to not be on purpose, combined with the weird way the siblings interact with each other and not seeming very close.
My personal theory is not that any of them are adopted but that they are a blended family. Mom and dad got together when they each already had kids of their own. Saxon is dad's biological son and Piper and Lochlan are mom's biological kids. Saxon went to the same college as his dad and Piper the same as her mom. Piper being bio siblings with Lochlan explains her wanting to room with Lochlan (also a fan of the theory that Lochlan is gay and Piper knows, or that Piper has experienced some shady stuff with Saxon and is trying to protect Lochlan). And explains why the kids don't seem fully comfortable together and not very close. Although still icky it makes way more sense that Saxon spoke about Piper being clearly hot if they are step sibs. Saxon is trying to bond with Lochlan and take him under his wing as his new little brother. Lochlan as the youngest and the odd one out (who may also be confused about his sexuality) is torn between both sides.
I think maybe some shady stuff has been done by Saxon or the dad to the other kids and the mom stays doped up to cope with it and avoid the issue. She wants to pretend like everything is fine like when she insists that they are a normal family.
Its my fault for thinking that the bad acting is distracting? lol ok man. Can you please provide a list of acceptable discussion topics for this thread?TC TTS said:
It's only distracting if you let it be. Otherwise, I still disagree.
