How long do you want to ignore this user?
Watched with my teenage kids (their first time) and a couple of things occurred to me.

First, as great as it is, for some reason it doesn't get enough love as one of the best movies of the 80s.
Second, my wife and kids noticed how Home Alone has several callbacks to Ferris:
-Ferris singing in the shower: :Kevin McCallister singing into the mirror
-Ferris's sister screaming up the stairs after kicking Ed Rooney: :McCallister screaming up the stairs

Also, the license plate on Ferris's dad's car read "MMOMM," a call back to John Hughes' Mr. Mom.

I feel like I need to watch more of his movies again and look for these kind of things.

Finally, Cameron's dad had to have killed him when he got home, right??

It was the best John Hughes film.

It's my favorite 80's movie. Best time watching a movie was at Rudder Theater back in about 1990 or so watching a midnight showing of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The entire crowd was quoting the entire movie.

Oh wow! They made a movie based on the TV show? I'll check it out.

Parker Lewis Can't Lose was better.

Along with Bob Russell (Uncle Buck's brother), Gary and Wyatt, Jake Ryan, and the Brain, the Basket Case, the Athlete, the Princess and the Criminal.

You mean Jennifer "Baby" Gray. And a funny cameo by Charlie Sheen with her.

No, I meant in the above "Pilot", Jennifer Aniston is Jeannie instead of Jennifer Grey.

That movie was a landmark film for me as a teenager. I left the theater thinking Ferris was the coolest guy on the planet and every girl I knew thought Sloane was the epitome of teenage girl chic.

My wife even named our daughter after Sloane Peterson.

Yeah, this was a good, fun movie. Certainly on the "80s movies" Mt Rushmore, in my opinion. I'd put Better Off Dead up there as well.

So many great moments in this movie. Just a couple:

  • The great synth/drum machine score that swells when Cameron talks about facing his dad after killing the car.
  • Ferris furiously racing to beat his parents home but stopping to chat up the two girls in bikinis.

It would have been interesting to see how John Hughes adapted his movies as he got older and society changed.
Alas, was not to be

That would have sucked. His movies were perfect for the time.

It's funny b/c that was probably the last time Matthew Broderick was cool. For 30 years he's been one of the dorkiest actors in the world.

Broderick and Winkler, two peas in a pod.

The definitive movie of young people in the 90's. 5 stars all around. It holds up so well too.

The 90's? That movie came out in 1986 at the very end of my junior year of High School. That was the definitive movie of my generation, not the 90's.

Fun fact,
The actors that portrayed Ferris' parents got married in real life following the filming of the movie. Went on to Star in a few movies together portraying a married couple raising kids

Yes late 80's and early 90's. I was out of college in '87 and it defined my generation as well.

That scene with Jennifer Gray and Charlie Sheen is favorite part of the whole movie.

BOY: Drugs?
JEANIE: No, thank you. I'm straight.
BOY: I meant, are you here for drugs?

JEANIE: Why are you here?
BOY: Drugs.
JEANIE: I don't know why I'm here.
BOY: Then why don't you go home?
JEANIE: Why don't you put your thumb up your butt?

BOY: You want to talk about your problem?
JEANIE: With you? Are you serious?
BOY: Yeah, I'm serious.
JEANIE: Blow yourself.

JEANIE: You really want to know what's wrong?
JEANIE: Alright. If you've got the time, I've got the troubles. In a nutshell, I hate my brother. How's that?
BOY: That's cool. Did you shoot him or something?
JEANIE: No, not yet.

JEANIE: I went home to confirm that the ****head was ditching school and a guy broke into the house and I called the cops and they picked me up for making a phony phone call.
BOY: What do you care if your brother ditches school?
JEANIE: Why should he get to ditch school when everybody else has to go?
BOY: You could ditch.
JEANIE: I'd get caught.
BOY: So, you're pissed at him because he ditches and doesn't get caught?
JEANIE: Basically.

BOY: Then your problem is you.
JEANIE: Excuse me?
BOY: Excuse you. You oughta spend a little more time dealing with yourself and a little less time worrying about what your brother does. It's just an opinion.

BOY: There's somebody you should talk to.
JEANIE: If you say Ferris Bueller, you lose a testicle.
BOY: You know him?

That whole conversation is gold.

Sheen did end up with some drug issues.

Jennifer Grey "fixed" her nose and was shunned by Hollywood. Ashley Tisdale did not learn from her example and did the same thing. Haven't seen her in a long time.

Yeah, that was a huge mistake by Grey. She was basically on a Sandra Bullock trajectory as America's Sweetheart after Dirty Dancing. Her beak made her unique and hot.

Yep. Didn't understand why she did it, and didn't understand why she vanished so quickly.
