Ok so help me connect the dots. I remember them talking about tape earlier this season and certain people being especially ticked off about it... but this good tape that replaced the bad... that was done by Walker (the lady in the bottom)? So are we inferring she knew the truth the entire time?

What's everyone's theories on the other silos and what direction the show takes?

Are the rest of them all connected? Dead? Mix?
My guess is she enters another silo next season.

I also assume they are all connected via the "giant door" at the bottom of the silo.

I am curious if they are all governed the same way or have completely different societies, though.

So Nichols stole the heat tape at one point because mechanical needed it. Then discovered their heat tape sucks, and didn't understand why they were so upset about it.

We see Walker connect the dots in her mind after that conversation after Nichols gets arrested that the reason they were so upset about it is because Bernard knows it sucks on purpose.

So she leaves her room for the first time in like however many years to go over to that lady (which apparently used to be her wife, I missed that the first time) in Supply and they have that conversation. "Your tape is way better than theirs, it doesn't make sense." Then Walker says "unless it does."

So offscreen we can assume they get Supply to give them the good tape on Nichols' suit. There's even a shot of someone loading up the box of tape.

They also pass the message to Nichols in that food box that "they're good in Supply" which helps her figure out the tape thing also. Up to that point, Nichols had not figured that out.

One of my "big questions" is what's up with "the mines"? They built up the character that was mapping the stars and are sending him down to work the mines, the time dedicated to that arc which didn't otherwise impact the main plot seems to set up the mines playing an important role later.

It's hard to imagine the silos being that close together and not running into each other if they're all mining underground.

So with the hard drive having the number 18, Bernard having a FOB/key with the number 18 that opens up the server room, are we all thinking that their silo is number 18 out of a bunch of others? That's where I'm at.

Yeah, agree there.

Maybe the revolution will start down in the mines? I feel like this already happened in a 90s movie though.

This is a good non-book-spoilers video that catches some things I definitely missed.

Suspected the truth, nothing too crazy here. Just that she thought there was a big over-reaction to her stealing the tape, knowing their tape sucked (one of the mechanics mentioned it was bad tape), and then knowing they used it to tape up the suits.

Still so many questions:

  • Why kill them (mercy, not to disturb the other silos?)
  • Why show them a hologram(so they clean?)
  • Why the secrecy, they are being honest about not being able to go outside, so why be so weird about it
  • Telling them to look away from seeing the hologram instead of just telling them whatever is going on. I guess not to defeat the purpose of showing them the hologram if they do go out??
  • Why cut off the hologram after saying "she knows" in such an urgent way
  • Why so cruel to the star gazing guy, for those suggesting Bernard isn't really that bad
  • And obviously everthing related to all the other silos

I think this one has an answer. If they only glimpse it, if they ever see it again, they might not realize it's the exact same video. That's how Nichols caught on, is the birds were exactly the same as the video she had already seen.

The rest I think are all related to one of the core questions moving forward, what exactly does Bernard know and not know?

Yeah, but in what scenario will the be seeing that video again? When they are sent out to clean? Which ties back to the other question, why show them that when they are sent out to clean, is it just to entice them to clean?
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah, exactly that scenario.

And also yes, you have to remember that most people that go clean haven't seen the video of the world being nice, so they go outside, they're surprised that it's nice, and their immediate thought is that the people inside need to see this so they go and clean the camera.

I'm working with the assumption this character has a need to be down there for the next season. Theorizing that he becomes the guy the mayor uses to investigate the door, which I am presuming the mayor did not know about before Nichols told him. The mayor is a mixed bag of what he knows versus doesn't know (knows the truth about the cleaning but didn't know about the door). So therefore the mayor takes over the role of the character investigating the mysteries inside the silo because Nichols is now outside investigating the mysteries of the other silos. And at this point, we as an audience have now found out the mysteries inside the silo that the mayor as a character already knows.

Love this idea.

And then the mayor and the miner can use this poster to cover up their work...

Made it 3 episodes and I am pulling the plug. Too slow and none of the characters really register with me. The sheriff was starting to build up some good will with me, but …. Anyway, glad yall enjoy it, I'm out.

So if the outside is really doomed and not green then what was up with the giant screen glitch in episode 3 just before the power went out? It was the same clip from the hard drive #18. I'm just not sure how that would have been uploaded without the control room ever seeing it. The show never really mentioned that part again after it happened even though it showed several people seeing the screen.

I need to watch the end again - was the sheriff's body actually still on the hill by the tree once her hologram vanished? If not - where are the bodies of the previous cleaners?

Also, if Bernard knows the regular tape sucks on purpose then he must have a reason for wanting cleaner's to die.

Maybe it is on-purpose - cleaners are picked up by some as of yet unknown entity (they aren't dead, just knocked out). Then they're repurposed elsewhere.

Staff - take out the trash.

The bodies are there, it's a bit confusing when they show it because she's on top of a hill, but they're there, she tripped on his body. The whole emotional thing with the sheriff's badge makes no sense otherwise.

Presumably he/they want them to die quickly in view of the camera as proof to everyone inside that the air is still toxic. If they disappeared over the hill more people would want to try going out.

I think it's easier to think of it less as a clip and more like a filter like on TikTok or snapchat. It's already in the system, they've just never used it. Remember that screen is always on, and always on the same thing. Probably nobody but Bernard even knows about the filter in the system.

Need to rewatch but I think the visor was showing her a rock but she knew it was the sheriffs body. Once she put the badge on his body Bernard says "she knows" and leaves for the server room.

Seriously great finale. Definitely patching the blue sky feed into the helmets somehow. No idea how those silos can be that close to another unless the scale is hard to represent accurately in the last shots.

Ferguson is coming back for another season or is she gone forever? And if that's the case who do we root for now? Stargazer? The down deep crew? Sheriff Shakes?

Unless I missed it, I still haven't seen an explanation for why Bernard rushes to the server room to shut off her hologram display so she can see the real world.

Yea that seems to be the motivation, but why would he want her to go exploring when the other cleaners are set up to die?

Another question: why are there not more dead bodies outside? If they've been in the silo for over a century and there have been lots of cleaners, why are the previous sheriff and his wife the only bodies you see? Also in the pan out in the finale, shouldn't all the silos have had dead bodies from cleaners too? You don't see any.
bobinator

Edit: nm, just rewatched that scene so first explanation doesn't make sense. I guess why he shuts off her display is a mystery as well. Possibly he wants her to keep going?

The lack of bodies thing is a mystery yet to be solved though, although you could reason it away with occasional crazy dust storms or the weather or something. They did say it had been a long time since the last cleaning.

I predict we'll see that at least most if not all of the other silos are dead though.

There is still a door down in the digger chamber. Doors can be used to go out or go in. Maybe they connect the silos. And she walks to another silo and somehow gets in.

Maybe the other silos don't make their people go outside. Different rules and different ways of governing?

Someone help me connect the dots on the heat tape and supply and her not dying outside? Did IT think she was on to them when she stole the tape and so they came down investigating? I feel dumb not being able to make the connections they obviously wanted us to.

Entice her to go explore and die off camera rather than stay in view of the camera and potentially do something that would spark an uprising?
