That didn't bother me. I viewed more as she was the only one who thought to do it and was brave enough to do it.

yeah that was all a deviation from the books for the benefit of dramatic visuals. both the repair work and the steam vent. In the book they did a full overhaul on the generator and spent a couple of days doing it. No drama there.

I get that, but the issue is that she's better equipped to fix the generator.

So nobody is questioning why they didn't install some sort of diverter or pressure release valve? I am not getting the sense that the people in the silo are the brightest, so I was fine just going with their nonsense and just taking away the whole purpose of the scene was to flex her unselfish nature and her 'do whatever it takes' attitude.

there are "reasons" why for that as well as other common sense things you would expect to be in the Silo. But you aren't supposed to know that now. you don't know who the people in the silo are, where it is, why it was built...lots and lots of questions...

Yeah, this is legit. (Coming from another non-book reader.) Fantastical pilot and maybe even a better second episode.

I really love the structure and how the storytelling is constantly folding back on itself, connecting dots, teasing, then answering, then teasing again, etc. Also a bold move to keep Ferguson - the lone actor on the poster and the centerpiece of the marketing so far - out of the pilot until the end. I don't think I've seen that before, but swings like that are something I wish more shows/pilots would take. It really made it feel like big deal once she was finally introduced.

The rest of the cast is great too, as is the incredible production design. Very Zion/Matrix-esque, but a bit more familiar, in a cool way. On one hand, I keep thinking wow, what a great, cost-effective idea to set a show on one mega set that's all interiors. But then each individual set looks like a million bucks - some of them massive - and I realize it still had to have cost a ton.

Regardless, I'm definitely going to be looking forward to this each week, and am glad to see Apple with (hopefully) another hit on their hands.

Ellie in Last of Us was introduced in episode 2 wasn't she?

I wasn't sure if the angle you were going for was her being the sole face whereas we did get Joel at least. I still remember how jarring the opening was when I played the first game when you control this little girl who isn't even the one on the cover.

But I agree it can throw an audience for a loop and actually introduce even more mystery

Yeah, that was kind of my point. You could view it as bad writing or the people in the Silo are idiots.

I'm not watching it yet but I'm a big fan of the original trilogy. Just hang in there it has lots of great twists.

Watched the first 3 episodes and love it so far. The screen showing the outside being green for a split second before the power went out was a nice touch.

I read the first part of the first book, basically the first episode so this is a hypothesis:

The breathing stuff they're giving them is killing them, not the air outside.

I was thinking this as well but then the sheriff took off his helmet and still seemed to succumb to whatever it is, or maybe that is just what was shown on the screen in the cafeteria.

I had the same thought but then when the screen flashed reality briefly there were no bodies laying out there. All that to say, it seems there is no way to know what is happening yet.

I missed that.

I caught the color but not the missing bodies.

Perhaps I'm making this up, but I seem to recall them showing us what the Sherrif saw when he first went outside. Everything was green, no bodies and he said something like "she was right", if I'm remembering correctly. I assume all the people that went outside to "clean" are still alive, but the screen is showing bodies to keep people scared of leaving.

If I'm right about them being alive, my question is why haven't any of them done anything to get back inside to show others or mess with the camera.

I'm enjoying it so far. I may need to pick up the book series.

I agree with this 100%. My theory is the 'silo' is an experiment of some sort ran by people on the outside.

They did give an outside POV for a couple of shots as the Sheriff was "dying" with his helmet off. Not to say he didn't collect himself and get back up afterwards.

Just to be crystal clear… as speculation builds, if any book readers here so much as hint at spoilers, you will be swiftly fitted with a hazmat suit, escorted down the corridor, and sent outside to "clean," never to return to this board. We're already in Lost/Severance territory here, in terms of mystery box potential, and I refuse to have that ruined…

I thought it looked like he got better when he took the helmet off but the "poison" he was breathing in from the suit already did him in. Again, that doesn't explain how the outside was green with no bodies so who knows where this is going. Great show so far

Similar to Lost? Desmond down the hatch in Lost like the 10k in the Silo... with Andy Dufresne and the rest of Judicial being the "Others" than only appear to be stuck in the same situation maybe.

Can't work out why the folks who leave wouldn't come back.
*The Silo is impregnable from the outside
*People on the outside detain/kill those who leave
*Those who leave are made to understand why the people must stay in the Silo so they don't go back

My guess is the gas in the suit knocks them out, then the computer can capture where they fell to overlay it on The image shown inside.

They later wake and leave, or others outside grab them and revive.

I still have too many questions / little direction to make assumptions. Like, the outside seems pretty fake. It has a weird hue to it or something. Also, the video the wife saw of the outside had birds fly across as he (video guy) started to go outside in much the same way they were flying when the sheriff went outside. Could be nothing or could be part of these twists these book readers keep telling us about.

saw this elsewhere and thought it was hilarious!

It only the steam containment chamber had a release valve, perhaps a button to push every 108 minutes.

Don't think this show is big enough to warrant separate spoiler/non-spoiler threads. Hopefully the book readers won't give spoilers even if unintentionally.

I'm with you I'm intrigued and have no idea where this is going and don't want that spoiled.

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of Snowpiercer without the action and Severance without the comedy but is still somehow quite enjoyable.
