Watching that trailer just makes me think, I've already seen most of these scenes before. I can't be the only one right?

I thought the trailer looked good. I'm more interested in this project now after watching it. It's been a long time since reading that book, but they are looking at 8 episodes @ 1 hour each. If the first movie was 2.5 hours long, then they are looking at ~5.5 hours of "new" material for the series. It will be interesting to see how that extra space is filled. This project will ultimately stand on its own from the movie, for better or worse.

Not sure why you think that is weird. This is something I've been hoping for for a long time since the movies butchered the books so badly. I think the only people that might have a problem with this are people that love the movies, but have never read the books for whatever reason.

Unless HBO does what they did with AKOTSK where each episode amounted to like 25 minutes of material.

I'm really bothered by Snape's costume. Its way too cool... and no one in the wizarding world has zippers.

Like if you were going to make him black, you actually needed to go over board on the nerd. Like he should be more awkward than Richard Ayoade and he should absolutely wear the most ill fitting hat and his dress should be positively medieval even by wizarding standards.

Not like Blade found platform 9 and 3/4s.

The Black Snape quips and memes are just too damn funny for me to take this adaptation seriously.

That being said, I'll watch them for sure. I adore that world. The books are extremely near and dear to my heart. With that, I actually don't want this to fail obviously but I will go in with an obvious bias to the old material but hoping they pull off something good here too.

Honestly, my biggest fear is how well they will tread the line of injecting new stuff to replicating the old. By that I mean, the stories are set in stone and beloved by the hordes. This new telling will have to have something new to offer. I hope it is just fleshing out the stuff the original movies left out from the books, and not taking liberties with the plot and plot devices. Black Snape notwithstanding…

There is A LOT missing from the movies. It's kind of funny because The Sorcerer's Stone came out in November 2001 and was immediately followed by The Fellowship of the Ring in December. The contrast between how well they were adapted was incredible. I remember being seeing TSS and thinking the acting was horrible and they just picked whatever scenes were good excuses for bad CG. Then I was absolutely blown away by FOTR.

Ive also convinced myself that Richard Ayoade would make a perfect Snape and I would absolutely love to see him do that.

No. Absolutely, not.

This is a nearly perfect Snape casting:

Casting director needs to be fired into the sun for missing this one. Even past the Black Snape thing. Rickman was the perfect Snape. No question there. But if you HAVE to get another, Driver is a no brainer. Or so I thought.

The sorting hat scene immediately comes to mind.

If they're making Snape Black, I need to see Jack McBrayer as Kingsley Shacklebolt.

I agree he'd make a good Snape but I'm pretty sure Rowling insists on all British actors. I know she did for the films and assume she had the same rule for this show.

Doh, completely forgot abput him. So I guess she didn't have that stipulation this time around. It was widely reported she did for the movies.

A steady paycheck for being on a show that will be watched by millions? Don't know why anyone would take that.

Plus he's like the 8th lead in the first and second books. He only starts being in big-time non-classroom scenes in Prisoner of Azkaban, and it feels like any serious actor would love is arc from the 3rd to the 7th book.

We get it, you're excited about this and really like the trailer while most on here are either so-so or turned off by it. Totally your perogative and more power to you. Personally, while I disagree strongly with the Snape casting I will definitely be happy if they truly are faithful to the books in all other ways and flesh them out more than the movies. But her point still stands...Snape's costume just looks "wrong" for reasons I can't quite put my finger on.

Harry feared the dementors. Neville feared Snape. Neville would be the one who hates gay black men.

Wow impressive catch.
I stand corrected.

The rest of my sentiments remain. It looks like streetwear fashion for wizards and is too cool. Wizards dont "get" muggle fashion and Snape certainly wouldn't.

Even that leather jacket of moodys is odd because its supposed to look like a strait jacket. Its not a classic leather zip

I don't have any issues with that trailer and was never that upset about too many discrepancies between the books and original movies, but then Harry Potter is not my Star Wars like it is for the Millennials.

I do think casting Snape as a black guy is deliberately playing into a racial trope just so they can redeem him and have a "I told you so" racial outcome.

if he had any game with the ladies, he would have zipped it the other way.
