I recently did a deeper dive on covers of Zeppelin songs, most are great so good covers would actually be pretty good. The Wilson sisters have a bunch that are very nice, Jeff Healy does a great Communication Breakdown, have always loved Chris Cornell's voice but was never into his music so I really enjoyed his cover of Going to California and Thank You. Here are a couple I wanted to highlight, one is definitely the quirkiest and that is Frank Zappa's version of Stairway to Heaven. He is actually very true to the original (except an innovative use of horns for the guitar solo) but what's with all the animal noises? Just Frank being Frank I guess:



But the one that blew me away was Misty Mountain Hop by 4 Non-Blondes. I had never heard of them before but the singer has some pipes on her. They are true to the original but still make it their own song, awesome cover:

I heard this one the other day and it was great.

I always liked STP's cover of Dancing Days

No Quarter cover by Tool is amazing.

A Zep song I have always had a strong affinity for is How Many More Times. I know it is a pretty simple bluesy number (so simple that when Zep was on tour and Page hurt his hand, they switched it for the encore, because it was easier to play). There are some good covers of it from Joe Bonamassa

Tool's version of No Quarter is incredible.

While not exactly on topic, I've been revisiting this and it's soooo good. The Crowes are such a great band and Page looked like he had a new lease on life. A really great collaboration.

You're Time is Gonna Come is a real gem here. Conan has a funny bit at the end, too.

Not particularly a Tool fan, but that's the only cover I've heard that actually comes close to being as good as the original.

Not to flood the thread with Stairway covers, but I always loved this one.



Also, 4-Non Blondes are great! You may have heard "What's Going On?" By them before.

That Encomium album all the way around was great. Also 4 Non Blondes had a fairly big hit on alt radio with "what's up?" But their singer (Linda Perry) went on to be one of the most sought after writers/producers during the 90s and even today.

Stairway to Heaven isn't my favorite Zeppelin song, but I really like Mastodon's cover of it. It stays pretty true to the original while using harder distortion during the guitar solo and back part of the song.

I loved this when it came out on the "Encomium" Zeppelin covers album that we are all very familiar with. It made the song accessible to me on guitar and vocal.

I can't imagine what that must feel like ... you're being honored for a lifetime of achievement and a band as well-known as Heart is just wailing away on your best-known song with a full choir backing them. That's gotta be a tremendous -- and emotional -- rush.

How does Dave Grohl manage to make you like him more every single time you see him?

Not a full cover, but DMB has been sampling Stairway during the jam session of their cover of All Along the Watchtower the last handful of years on tour. It is fantastic to hear in person. Tim Reynolds crushes it.



3:30 is when the AATW really gets going and 5:45 is when the stairway solo hits.
