Not on here, but I think probably in the general populace.

Silverado

All star cast, and a really great movie.

I feel like "Collateral" doesn't get enough love. One of Tom Cruise's best performances of all time and Jamie Fox is amazing as well. But it's just one not many of my friends or family seem to have seen or appreciate.

About Time

Don't see a lot of people talking about it so much, but it's one that really hit me hard. Enjoyed every second of that movie.

Great mention. Love this movie. Have seen it a few times now and it always hits hard. Most recently on NYE. Really a great movie.

Just watched one last night that I think fits:

Running Scared.

Great chemistry between Crystal and Hines. Makes me wonder why Hines didn't have many more major roles after. I guess dancing was more his first love so maybe acting wasn't as much a priority.

One of my favorite comedies of all time. Saw it in theatres in 1986. I guess you can call it underrated, moderate success and reviews.

Take a look at the box office for its release. Lots of heavy hitters on this list, so not shameful for Running Scared to only be 5th.

Midnight Run was always a top choice. Not a big fan of the politics, but DeNiro was nails with Charles Grodin.

I missed Ruthless People and Labyrinth. Saw the rest at theaters.

Back to underrated movies, another 80's comedy that is one of my favorites:

Ruthless People was on VHS or HBO/Showtime.

Rated R.

My pants still go crazy thinking of American Anthem.

Oscar. Stallone in a comedy? Yes and it's so simple yet well done.

I'm still struggling with how Midnight Run is underrated. It's north of 90 on RT, 7.5 on IMDB and grossed over 100 million WW on its release, which was solid for 1988.
I think I have been quoting it since then pretty much.

And yet when most people mention their favorites, it never gets a mention. I would put it up there in quality with Courage Under Fire.

I don't know if this movie qualifies, as it now has a huge cult following despite being a box office bomb.

One of those where you might quote the entire damn script.

For westerns, how about A Big Hand For The Little Lady? Very underrated IMO. Great cast (Henry Fonda, Joann Woodward, Jason Robards, and Burgess Meredith) and loads of fun.
I mention this movie all the time to folks and no one has ever heard of it…..even old poker players that grew up on westerns. Maybe it was because it came out before poker became popular and normal folks couldn't follow the storyline?

That sounds like a good guess to me. It deserves to get a lot more attention.

Absence of Malice

It's mostly known for the incredible scene with Wilford Brimley, but it's a whole lot more than that. It shows how easily journalists can let themselves be played by people in power with their own agendas and the motivation to see them implemented. Also how easily journalists can justify taking a vacation from ethics.

Melinda Dillon (RIP) is so good in that movie. The paper delivery scene is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

Top Secret (1984) - may be my favorite Airplane!-like comedy, somehow I missed this for decades after its release. Val Kilmer is perfect in this.

Mr Deeds goes to Town (1936) - Frank Capra movie with Gary Cooper, caught this one completely by accident and loved it. Adam Sandler's remake just made me ill.
