His best work was as the psycho in Taps.

It's beautiful man.

Surprised by the negativity towards Cocktail. It's a classic.

I was not a fan of Vanilla Sky but I know many that did like it so that was a personnel preference one.

I was a big Anne Rice fan back in the day but did not like his portrayal of Lestat. He's just better at human roles. Not great at being a Vampire.

Yeah, there are films of his that might not be to everyone's taste but they still have some redeeming qualities.

The Mummy was just objectively bad.

Rock of Ages is the obvious answer.

I now realize how many Tom Cruise movies I haven't watched because I thought they'd be bad.

I have no idea of how many Mission Impossibles I've seen. Between 2 and 7, I guess. They all seem the same to me.

Knight and Day wasn't just a good movie, it was a FUN movie. Loved it.

I wanted to like The Mummy, but I couldn't tell you much about it right now.

American Made is on my "watch when there's nothing else to watch" list. Fun, easy, entertaining, educational.

Other than Maverick, Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow, and Jerry Maguire, those are the only ones I've watched within the last 12 months.

Looking through the list of his movies on IMDB, of the ones I've seen The Mummy was bad.

War of the Worlds, Magnolia, and Vanilla Sky I haven't seen in so long I honestly don't remember much about them.

I did not like the Reacher movies but more because I read the books and had a very different interpretation of them in my head that was hard to get past.

Movies of his I have never seen from his IMDB:

American Made
Lions for Lambs
Born on the Fourth of July
All the Right Moves
Losin It
Taps
Endless Love

I'm in the sane boat.

Did not watch The Mummy one or Rock of Ages bc the previews looked bad.

I'm a very big fan of Edge of Tomorrow and Oblivion. Ones I can rewatch at any time.

The MI ones are just James Bond flics on steroids. So while they are not bad, have to be in a certain state of mind to be interested in watching.

Huh, I don't think I've seen any of his "bad" movies. Some of these listed I haven't even heard of.

I'm still of the belief that Mission Impossible Fallout is the best action movie of all time.

I've never seen Rock of Ages, nor will I ever, it looks unwatchable. I'll leave out the ones I haven't seen and maybe this will be a surprise entry...

Mission Impossible 2 is absolute garbage, I think it's the worst movie of his that I've seen. Last year I did a rewatch of all the Mission Impossible movies and it stands out from all the others, I couldn't even finish it, it's just so bad. There are things to praise in every single one of the others, each one enjoyable for different reasons. That one is just hot garbage. I don't think The Mummy is as bad as Mission Impossible 2, I don't remember hating The Mummy, it's just not memorable. But since I have affection for the entire Mission Impossible series the fact that 2 exists makes me actually hate the film.

Rock of Ages was bad, but Cruise was awesome in it. He was by far, the only thing good in that movie. Also, Elisabeth Shue was the hottest actress of the 80s, which makes Cocktail watchable.

I would not fight you on that. It's a solid candidate.

As a period epic, I think the Last Samurai is absolutely amazing and may be my favorite Cruise movie.

I'm amazed this movie doesn't get more love. It rates high on my re-watchable scale as well.

I'm a samurai history buff, so the final charge and reaction of the Japanese soldiers gets me every time. It's very moving.

Team Vanilla Sky. Love that movie. One of Tom's more demanding and remarkable performances.

Reacher movies are just whatever to me. He's not especially bad in them, just don't really care about them.

Thread should have been called "What is Tom Cruise's second-worst movie". Because its not really debatable what the worst one is.

Another good one would have been "What is Tom Cruise's best supporting role movie"? I'd have to go with Tropic Thunder on that one. Not sure there is a close second there either.

This thread isn't "Worst movie with a great Tom Cruise performance".

I couldn't even make it to Tom's parts in Rock of Ages. I turned it off pretty early...

And Gina Gershon:

I too was a college bartender that copied every one of the moves in Cocktail.

I'm with the hate on MI 2. The Woo slo-mo attempted cinematic BS was too much. It's the Die Another Day of MI movies.

Not even a supporting role but I lost my **** when he cameo's as Austin Powers in Goldmember.

Magnolia was his worst. Don't care if he got an award or nominated or whatever. Movie sucked.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Eyes Wide Shut.

Either of the Top Gun movies. As a former fighter pilot, arrogance gets you killed. Skill, acquired through study and training, with a natural aggressiveness give you an edge. It translates into a quiet self confidence others recognize. Before I began pilot training, a senior NCO walked up behind me and told me I was a fighter pilot. He''d been around flyers his entire career and recognized it when he saw it.

I've heard some say they don't love the ending of War of the Worlds, but this is the first time to see it described as bad, overall. I actually think it's pretty great, with plenty of haunting imagery and really good performances from Cruise and Fanning.
