Most people would probably say the Jack Reacher nonsense. Other than those can you think of a bad one? Vanilla Sky and Eyes Wide Shut were a little off to me, but I still will watch EWS from time to time.

You can say what you want about his weird Oprah thing, but the guy is amazing. I'm watching Last Samurai for the first time and it's really good.

Anyone? Other than Reacher, what was his worst movie? Is there one?

IMO, the Reacher movies are fun films, and Cruise is good in the role. The part folks can't get over is how miscast he was given the character is supposed to be physically imposing. Like 6 ft 5, 260 pounds. If you can forgive that, then the films themselves are good.

Worst of his films I've seen would be Rock of Ages. Not necessarily his fault, as he went all out, but it's pretty terrible.

Cocktail did not hold up well.

IDK, the music in RoA kinda made up for the weirdness for me. Plus the girl wasn't hard to look at.

Having not read the books, I like the Reacher movies.

I liked Legend. At the very least, it had a typically insane Tim Curry role.

Guess nobody here besides me has seen "Losin' it", huh?

Easily number 1 on this list.

Vanilla Sky. One of the few movies I've walked out of. Didn't want to waste another hour of my life. Never saw Magnolia but it looked terrible also.

He's more than made up for it though with so many fantastic movies.

I liked Cocktail, I first saw it when I started bartending in college. Days of Thunder is basically Top Gun / Cocktail with NASCAR. Vanilla Sky was awful.

The Mummy is definitely up there.

Cruise sure does make a lot of great movies from all different genres. As a period epic, I think the Last Samurai is absolutely amazing and may be my favorite Cruise movie. It is beautiful both visually and script-wise. All of the acting is absolutely amazing and I think it is probably Cruise's best performance. He is also mirrored by a fantastic performance by Ken Watanabi.

Then you add that to the movies I would consider some of the best action on movies of the last decade, Top Gun: Maverick and the Mission Impossible movies. One of the few actors I immediately know gives everything to the film he is making.

I felt like vanilla sky had a wtf Stephen king colossal letdown ending. It's not horrible but man it missed the mark in a lot of ways. Penelope Cruz was horrid for sure.

I'm a huge fan of The Last Samurai, even with the historical liberties. Totally agree, the cinematography, script, and performances are all wonderful.

The worst Cruise movie I've actually seen is probably Never Go Back (although I did like the first Reacher movie a lot), but I haven't seen Legend. Cocktail hasn't aged very well either. I'd put that in the "guilty pleasure" category.

Regardless, Cruise never mails it in. I can't think of a movie that was bad because of his performance. He gives 110% to every role. Got to admire that.

I liked it too at the time. But I watched it a few years ago and it just came across as 80's cheesy. It's only got a 5.9 now now IMDb as well, I would bet if IMDB existed at the time it would have been much higher in the first few years.

Knight and Day isn't good but it's a perfectly pleasant cheesebad movie.

Mummy is my vote.

I'll throw out Rock of Ages and Mission Impossible 2 as outliers.

Collateral is his most underrated.

Agree on Collateral. I also think I may be the only person that liked Valkyrie, it doesn't get mentioned alot.
