Here you go. Cornfield Chase from Interstellar. Time-stamped to 30 seconds in where the magic starts.

Now check this and watch the sausage get made. I love how it starts with Zimmer on piano and then keeps adding elements until you get to the aforementioned magic.

This is a pretty cool short retrospective he did with Vanity Fair

Anyone that belittles Zimmer or Williams as composers is an idiot. not that anyone here is, but in modern times, the cinema has replaced the symphony or opera. that is where people today go to have that "emotional experience". to try and compare ZImmer and Williams though is a fools errand. they are both amazing and we should all be lucky to have heard either of their scores. its like trying to compare Mozart and Beethoven.and i think given enough time, either of their scores will be thought of in the same vein as Mozart or Beethoven.

but for me personally, its Zimmer. his scores are powerful, resonant, and evoke more emotion than most anything Williams has done. HZ gets bonus points for using a wider variety of instruments to create that sound, like the church organ for Interstellar or the electric guitar, that help his music transcend the films they are part of.

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Watched it on Sunday as well. Really neat, always been a big fan of his. Interestingly they didn't talk about or mention Chris Nolan and some of his work on those movies, which are my favorite. Intersteller and Inception. the scores for those films are the best.

Years ago as a graduation present, I gave my nephew tickets to go see Hans Zimmer in concert.

I was witness to one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I'm not afraid to admit that his live rendition of music from Gladiator made me shed a tear.

I don't think Gladiator and Interstellar would be the memorable movies that they are if it wasn't for the soundtrack.

It's Zimmer for me man, his just stick with me and will randomly come up in my head.

The Rock scene on the raid where Shepherd (also Rivetti from Crimson Tide!) goes up even as he knows all his team are dead already is so good.

Really enjoyed the theme from Crimson Tide. Then I enjoyed it again in The Rock. And again in Gladiator. And again in Pirates. I know I'm leaving a few out.

Speaking of Zimmer, anyone heard of Bleeding Fingers music? Apparently it's a thing put together by Zimmer and did the music for a NatGeo symphony deal that's playing up here in Minneapolis in March.

A friend of mine from college works for Zimmer. I die a little inside every time I see his pictures from touring Europe. Lucky ******* even made the credits on Dune.

I am always curious what it would have sounded like to hear iconic scores if they had been done by a different composer.

I consider Howard Shore's score of the Lord of the Rings to be the greatest in movie history, but its interesting to think about what someone like Hans Zimmer would have done with it.

My favorite Zimmer composition was written for a TV reality series. Aggies may remember this piece as the backdrop for a Kyle Field intro video several years back.

Any Djawadi fans up in here? (Not comparing him to the GOATS, but this seemed like a good place to ask!)
His concert was almost as kickass as Zimmer's was, imo.

Besides the main theme of GoT, Light of the Seven may be one of the best music/scene combinations I've ever watch. So perfect. Also like the Lanister song.

Agreed. I loved the discussion of his unusual methods in creating music, the "ostrich" egg and PVC piping for instance. Reminded me of an extra on the Interstellar BluRay where he showed how he created much of the score for that masterpiece (film and score).

Fun fact: Hans Zimmer doesn't write most of the music he is credited with. He leads a studio of composers who compose his film scores based on thematic material he writes. He is essentially the leader of team of people who don't get credited for their work.

Zimmer has been criticized for a long time for perpetuating what many composers, arrangers, and orchestrators have felt is wrong with how Hollywood works.

Here's an article that explains it in more depth:
