Watched "Women Talking" yesterday. If there was an award for Most Accurate Film Title then it would be a landslide victory.

Overall it was interesting and well done, but it won't win anything.

Unfortunately it did have multiple occurrences of one of my film/tv pet peeves, which is when there is a tense/awkward silence and everyone breaks out in laughter. It's something I have NEVER seen happen in real life and it drives me nuts.

I think there are a couple of others I might have, but these are the ones I explicitly remember. These days, I rarely go in general, and historically, I haven't gone for the oscar types because those never seem to have the extra benefit a theater brings, say, a Marvel or Star Wars movie

Predictions before this weekend? I'll try to keep this to films I've seen.

Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All at Once, I just have a feeling about this one. I enjoyed it, it's really unique, I don't see any of the other nominees in direct contention to take votes from it if there's a voter that likes this movie I just think it's able to separate from the others. It has momentum going for it as well and it came out quite a while ago.

Best Actor: Colin Farrell, I really don't know what they'll do here, I could see voters swayed by Butler or Fraser but I just thought this was Farrell's best work. Even if there's a good bit of comedy in TBoI, it's a really dark and dramatic film that hinged on him.

Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh, similar to best picture, I just feel it's hers. Tar just wasn't for me, though I wouldn't be surprised if Blanchett takes it.

Supporting Actor: Quan, Gleeson and Keoghan probably cancel each other out. Henry was in a movie that basically no one saw. Hirsch had what was effectively a cameo in The Fabelmans.

Supporting Actress: Condon, she was so good in TBoI, but I truly have no idea. Bassett was great in WF but the film itself was bad IMO, the films shortcomings impact her potential. I didn't see The Whale so I can't comment on Chau, but she was awesome in The Menu. I could see JLC getting it but I don't know if she will have enough, could also lost votes to Hsu as they're both in the the same movie.

Director: The Daniels, I just think that it's theirs to lose.

My prediction is they split Director and Best Picture, with Everything winning best picture and McDonagh taking director.

I think Actor, Actress, and Supporting Actor are all but locks for Fraser, Yeoh, and Quan, just because all three are such great stories and have so much momentum behind them.

Supporting Actress is one I have the hardest time pinning down. I think JLC and Hsu will split their vote, but I could easily see any of the other three winning it. Gun to my head, I probably say Condon.

It feels like EEAAO has all the momentum right now, maybe just enough to get Yeoh the win over Blanchett.

To me both Fraser and Quan seem like locks right now. I know there was a lot of talk of Colin Farrell early in the season, but that never really materialized, and as good as Austin Butler was, they rarely give it to the younger guys this early in their careers. If Leo and Chalamet didn't get it, I don't think Butler can take it with such stuff competition.

Fwiw I didn't really like EEAAO all that much but I don't think any other movie has much of a shot right now, except for maybe Top Gun, weirdly enough. Just an effect of being so universally liked and the preferential ballot.

Top Gun winning would make too much sense, so it won't happen. Would be nice though.

If someone offered me $100 to sit in the theater and watch the entire movie (couldn't look at my phone), I'm pretty sure I'd pass. Just not my type of film in the slightest.

Voted for them for DGA Awards.

I think these are pretty close to locks:

Best Picture & Best Director: EEAAO
Best Actress: Yeoh
Best Supporting: Quan

Best Actor is a toss up. I think the Academy loves bio-pics and Elvis was a better movie so I'm going to go with Butler.

Supporting Actress: I'd vote Condon. Bassett was good but didn't transcend the movie.

I just watched The Fabelmans, which wrapped up my Best Picture nominee viewing. I would vote for EEAAO. It was the most unique and just the flat out best of the bunch.

Is that just a clickbait headline? The article makes no mention of Scientology, just that Cruise won't be there cuz he's filming Mission Impossible. .

It's a tweet, not a headline. Belloni is expressing his opinion while sharing a link, but everyone knows that's exactly why Cruise isn't going. He only shows up for/participates in very controlled interviews/press events, and he's not going to subject himself to any situation he can't control, where someone might direct a joke or negative comment his way. I love Tom Cruise the action star, but Tom Cruise the person is psychotically controlling and can't take even slightest joke or dig at his expense. He's shown up for a number of other Oscar events this awards season, but suddenly can't be bothered with the main event, the one that just so happens to be televised.

I mean it could just be that he's filming?

But also, the writing's on the wall that EEAAO is taking home the win, so it makes sense to not waste 4 hours of his time to see other movies win all the awards.

Again, he's managed to appear at a number of other Oscar events the past few weeks, and thus miss those filming days, so it's suspect that he's suddenly not able to appear at the show itself. Especially when ABC, the telecast, Bruckheimer, etc were all expecting him to attend, when he unexpectedly cancelled last minute.

I can't imagine they'll make fun of the slap, because of the humiliation it cost the Academy and you're downplaying something really ergregious that happened on live TV. Or maybe Jimmy Kimmel's first 50 jokes will be about it, What do I know.

And now this proves that Cruise isn't filming, seeing as the director just landed in LA for the ceremony. Maybe Cruise is with McQaurrie, and will end up attending as well, but if not, what a weenie...
