The Half Blood Prince movie has too much romance and doesn't go into Tom Riddle's backstory with his family.

This is definitely a big part of it. My favorite moments in all the Harry Potter books are Harry's sit-downs with Dumbledore.

They COMPLTELY butchered the final discussion from book 5 where Dumbledore gives Harry the entire history. I mean... this whole series is based on that one chapter from the book, and they turned it into a 20 second scene.

And then, in the 6th book, you get 5-6 different "lessons" with Dumbledore where they go into a memory to better understand Tom Riddle. We learn about his parents, we learn about his childhood, we learn how important Hogwarts is to Voldemort and why he wouldn't make a Horcrux out of just anything. In the movie, they gave us one memory and turned the movie into a cringy rom-com.

Again, the cave scene is a top 3 scene in the entire series, but it alone does not redeem the rest of that movie.

HBP was far and away the worst adaptation. The scenes with Harry and Dumbledore in the book are so good and the movie scrapped then for British boarding school rom-com…which fell flat on its face due to the negative chemistry between Radcliffe and the actress playing Ginny, especially when compared to his scenes with Emma Watson. Book Ginny was fun, daring, and closer to Fred/George in personality so you understood why Harry started to see her in a new light in Book 6. Movie Ginny is a dud.

Azkaban is my favorite movie, and the most rewatchable. Goblet of fire and OOTP are decent. I actually think deathly hallows 1 does a pretty good job, but they bungled the final battle in part 2.

I was surprised they didn't recast Ginny Weasley when the books revealed she and Harry have a romance. Although even in the books that romance seems competely out of left field.

The building up to it was slow and subtle, from what I can remember

Ginny always had a crush on Harry he just didn't really think of her that way until like book 6

Yeah... there is absolutely no chemistry between movie Ginny and Harry. It just feels so awkward and cringy.

When watching the movies it was always apparent that Hermione and Ron were going to pair up, but deep down I wanted Harry and Hermione to end up with each other. I think it's because Radcliffe and Watson had so much chemistry with each other. I think Rupert Grint did a solid job but he didn't turn out to be the talent that either of the other two are.

Also in the movies the Harry and Ginny thing came totally out of nowhere. In the books it was a little bit of a slow burn but she was a good character starting in GoF. Rowling definitely portrayed her as a very attractive person - cool and super confident. I don't think they got the casting just right.
