Non-spoiler thoughts:

Definitely on the slower side, even compared to movies of the time like Psycho. But, it did grab me after the first half hour or so.

The guy playing Mark gave an incredibly creepy performance in much the same vein as Anthony Perkins in Psycho. And they both seem oddly effeminate, I wonder if filmmakers just used that as a "shorthand" for psychotic killers, in a subconscious way. Like a man seeming not straight equated to just being "off".

You can definitely see the influence in early slashers, such as Black Christmas and Prom Night in particular. Especially with the first person kills and the voyeurism.

I wouldn't put it on par with Psycho, but definitely an enjoyable watch, especially if you're a fan of the horror genre. Very much feels like the proto-slasher.

Forgot about this movie of the week, but I did watch it. Thanks for picking an oddball movie that I would have never seen otherwise.
Random thoughts:
Never seen this before. Never used Tubi before.

The long POV uncut shots were cool

The solo piano music really did a lot of heavy lifting to set the mood. Similar to Halloween

Very risque material for the time

Loved the completely unnecessary long pan up and down the women

That was some bad effects on that girl's lip

Like he had a directors chair with his name on it in his dark room where no one else goes.

The way he held and would rub the camera was really suggestive of something else. Also the way he strokes the tripod towards the red head actress

Do we think he picked the red head stand in address because she looked like the red head birthday girl?

The mom just drinking Johnnie walker red every night

Filming someone watch their own death is pretty dark. I don't remember that happening on any other movies. You'd think that would be something people would steal

You can definitely tell the influence this movie had on much more well known movies. The POV shots, long takes, deranged main character, music, shock value.

Watched this last week, and had forgotten that I did so.

Interesting movie with some good sequences but ultimately not a movie that really worked for me. Was just too slow. Largely uninteresting characters. Nothing shocking ala Psycho. Also not even remotely suspenseful.

Looking forward to the next choice of movies to watch.

While I can understand how this movie has became a cult classic, especially among cinephiles and film makers such as Scorsese, it did not resonate with me. The concept showed promise but the overall story fell flat for me.

The middle section of the movie is what drew me in the most from the build up to the second murder, the murder itself (excellent build up of tension) to its aftermath. I liked the aspect which showed the voyeuristic nature of the killer was not limited to filming of the murders themselves but the need to document as much of the investigation possible even if it risked bringing suspicion upon him.

One early scene which I found amusing but probably offended the genteel sensibilities of the times was the one with the older man inquiring about the "special" photos from the awkwardness of the teenage girl coming into to the shop in the middle of it to the comment by proprietor as man left the store with his purchase.
