I was pretty excited to see Eric Tessmer. I used to watch him down on 6th Street on week nights with a crowd of about 20 people around 15 years ago. He was thrilled about finally getting to play ACL. Back then, you could count on a quarter of his set being SRV covers, which I loved. He has built out a nice catalogue of originals since then. He deserves more recognition.

If you go to ACL and this man didn't melt your face, I don't know how to fix you.

BMFS is the SRV of his generation

Billy Strings was who I was most excited to see, and he was awesome. I'd be willing to compare him more as the SRV of bluegrass. If you would like to watch someone modern who is almost a clone of SRV's genre, then Eric Tessmer is a better bet.

This year had easily the worst crowd I've ever experienced. Lots of younger people pushing their way to the front or people pulling the "I have a friend up there" and a lot of people with chairs in the no chair zone.

Paramore only did 50 mins instead of 60 and RHCP were done by 9:24 so they left 35 minutes early.

That being said, I did see some good sets. GOOOOOOOOOOSE

Agree. Very obnoxious crowd during the big shows too (P!nk and RHCP).

Is "Boy George and Culture Club" THE Boy George and Culture Club, like the ones from the 80s? If so, 1) haven't thought about them in about 2 decades, and 2) a bit surprised that a formerly top act is so far down the list.

Long-ish post...
Bounced around a lot this year since there really wasn't any particular act that I absolutely needed to see. It was a fun way to spend a few days experiencing new music with my teenagers. My thoughts for anyone going W2...for what they're worth from a 40-something yr old.

Definitely liked (some I knew, some I didn't):
Manchester Orchestra, Tobe Nwigwe, Spoon, War on Drugs, Goose, Billy Strings (although missed most of him due to a hangry 15-year old), Nathaniel Rateliff

Pleasantly surprised I liked - Pink, Lil Nas X, SZA/The Chicks (split half and half)

Acts that will probably put in my regular rotation now: Muna, Eric Tessmer

Surprisingly fun but shaky performance: Tyla Yaweh (son and I ended up 15' from him when he did a couple songs in the audience. All I can say is kids these days don't know what a mosh pit is. Just happy I didn't pull something jumping around)

Group I had to see but only to check the "now I've seen them" box - Chili Peppers
Probably would have rather just watched Chad Smith, Flea, and John Frusciante jam onstage for an hour

You're doing the dad thing right.

And of course Asleep at the Wheel for some classic Western Swing
I felt so old reading the list, and realizing AaTW was the only band I really knew, let alone knew well enough to recommend.

yea it is. Not sure if it's all the same band members or not.

Do know that he's been a coach on the voice Australia for a few seasons at least.

Didn't know they were still actually doing shows though
