I'm glad! Hopefully you also heard the keyboards from the song in your head when you read it.

**** Styx. They suck. Except Mr Roboto. That song is cool.
LOL...you have that SO backward.

Renegade too. Forgot about that song. I like that one.

For whatever reason I had Styx, Kansas, REO Speedwagon and Yes all kind of grouped together as rock bands that were just kind of meh. Boston too to some degree. The kind of bands that today have to get together with one or two others on these "classic rock all-star" tours to generate enough interest for larger venues.

Rush never had that problem. The last 20 years of their touring I'm not sure they even had an opening band. Last one I remember was Primus at the Summit in Houston early/mid '90's. They probably had others on subsequent tours I just don't remember.

Ask any upcoming band 10 years ago: you can choose to tour with Rush or you can tour with Styx. You honestly think anyone would choose Styx? If so you're fooling yourself…..

Mid-90's was the last time I saw them with an opener. Quick Google shows both Primus and Candlebox opening on the Counterparts tour. I don't remember which one was opening when I saw that tour but I did see both bands open for Rush. They were both good.

Also caught Mr. Big and Golden Earring and Tommy Shaw along the way. And Gary Moore at the Texxas Jam, who had been opening on their Grace Under Pressure tour.

Oh, and the Steve Morse Band. They were great!

They never shied away from having great openers. Unlike Van Halen who usually brought crap openers.

Eventually Rush said "we have a lot of songs people want to hear, and we want to promote the new album, and we don't have time for an opener".

Wish I could have seen the Steve Morse Band. I have a couple of their albums. Morse is legendary.

The Introduction is a fantastic album.

My older brother saw Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, and missed out on Al Dimeola (he was sick that night) at a club in '84 or '85. That was the original G3 tour before it had a name!

He said Steve Morse was mind blowing that night. And his band as well.

The bartenders quit serving and just watched the show. And they see EVERYBODY so you know the band is good if they drop everything to watch.

Pieces of Eight was a huge step for me in my musical journey. At that time I mainly listened to country, some soft rock stuff, and southern rock. That album ignited my interests into more complex arrangements and musical precision combined with harmonies and synthesizers. I couldn't tell you how many times I've listened to that album. Great stuff..
