Definitely will be buying Top Gun: Maverick on 4k Blu-Ray. Having an uncompressed audio track for a movie like that makes a difference. Also TV shows like LOST and Band of Brothers look and sound better on Blu-Ray compared to streaming.

Missing Kurosawa from Criterion, as well as Jackie Brown and Kill Bill.

I haven't bought one in a year or two but I have a "few". There was a second hand movie store not far from us that we used to hit up once a week or so and I bought a bunch there.

Edit: a quick estimate is about 300

There are only 3 Indiana Jones movies

And you said you would put al Detective Comic movies under D, then ALL Marvel movies, not just MCU ones go under M.

And the words ARE flipped on bad boys. Just because they would fall out od the sleeve is not my problem for ordering all of them the same way...

Nope. I said "All MCU movies live together in the M section, specifically under "Marvel.'" I never said "ALL Marvel movies." Check the receipts.

What are y'all going to do when the 5th movie is good, and references events from the fourth movie?

But remember how expensive they were back then. Terminator was "priced to own" at $80 or $90 in 1985.

There weren't collectible because you could afford to have a collection
That's true, but every year around Christmas in the early 80s, Paramount released some titles priced to sell. An Officer and a Gentleman, Star Trek II/III, and Raiders of the Lost Ark/Temple of Doom were $29.99 or close to that.
When I was a kid, McDonald's would sell a few movies on VHS for $5 each at Christmas time, which, looking back on it, seems kind of an odd thing to do. My family acquired all three Indiana Jones films this way.

I'm picky about sound, so I prefer physical media for action/epic films with great music.

As long as they continue including a digital copy with a blu ray purchase, I think it's a great deal because you get both.

That Bad Boys box would drive me nuts. Needs to go the other way even if they would come out.

Which is more annoying?

- Properly oriented box, but the title logo is facing the "wrong" direction?

- or -

- Title logo matches the orientation of all the others, but the "ULTRA HD Blu-ray" and Columbia Pictures logos are upside down?

Both. That design person should be sent to North Korea.

This is probably the most anyone has talked about Bad Boys in a long time.

I've never seen Apocalypse Now. Probably that and Lawrence of Arabia are the biggest classics I haven't seen.

Should be easy enough to rectify this deficiency in your viewing history. Just give yourself about 6 hours.

SOUND.

If you have a nice speaker setup the reason you buy 4K blu-ray or even just blu-ray is for the sound. It's the differentiator at this point. It's uncompressed on disc and can make use of the actual sound codecs.

If you don't have a nice sound setup then it won't matter.

How long do you want to ignore this user?

I HAD a large DVD/BR collection until about 3 years ago. Maybe 350 movies and 15-20 TV series.

I had started converting all I could to digital a few years before (some had inserts that still worked) and I was already buying new on digital (old Ultraviolet platform).

Vudu then bought by Walmart and partnered with UV. When UV went away everything moved to Vudu before NBCUniversal swooped in and bought Vudu who had partnered with the Disney Movies Anywhere platform.

Anyway when I moved I decided to sell of the bulk of my DVD/BR collection if I had converted it to digital or wanted a HD quality version. I used the money from selling them off to offset some of the cost of converting more to digital that way.

What I have ended up with now is about 250 digital titles most of which are on Vudu and Movies Anywhere. Because Paramount is being pissy Paramount studio titles and a few other small studios don't crossover onto the other platforms but MOST of my collection (except for 39 movies) are on:

Vudu/Movies Anywhere/Google Play/Apple TV/FandangoNOW/Amazon video

A handful are only on FandangoNOW or Apple if I purchased them there in a short sighted move (some my kids bought).

My actual DVD/BR collection is down to a hundred or so now and the 15-20 TV series. Considering selling them before they are totally worthless and converting the rest to digital.

I actually go check almost monthly for movies on sale (usually $4.99 in HDX on Vudu). This month I got Idiocracy, Last of the Mohicans, and My Cousin Vinny for $4.99 each.

i sometimes purchase Vudu's bundled movies series. Like they have the Die Hard series for #34.99 right now. The only annoying things is they don't show up as individual movies in their library. And those do not ever cross over to other platform via Movies Anywhere.

Because of the issue on crossover I maintain a color coded spreadsheet of my movies and which platforms they are on.

Ha!! thanks.

I've been through this before....

I also HAD a 500 or so vinyl album collection circa 1985.
I was an early CD convert (1984) and slowly over 10 years I replaced most of those 500 albums with CDs
I sold off the rest of my vinyl at one point.
10 years later started converting CDs to digital in a massive Apple iTunes library over 20K songs
I got nervous about it and kept backing it up on an external drive.
Then I moved to Apple iTunes Match and it backed all that up for me.
I have since moved to Apple Music but I kept my backup of what I own in case I ever leave.

So I don't know technology keeps making it easier and I just keep converting and moving to the newest thing. It ain't cheap though. I swear I payed for some albums 3-4 times (vinyl, cassette, CD, digital).

Now with movies it seems like most that I have I can find streaming somewhere for free (since I also subscribe to Netflix, Apple TV, Dinsey+, Paramount+, Amazon Prime, HBO Max).

So sometimes I wonder about the effort it just seems to end up free on some subscription.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I've paid for so many movies multiple times now, and I feel like such a sucker. At least it's been over, like, 20 years, and I can justify it because the quality keeps getting noticeably better each time, but still.

And yeah, Apple Music would make my life so much easier on that front, since I buy everything through iTunes anyway, but I just can't bring myself not to own my own music.

Also, As much as I love having a digital movie collection, and enjoy just scrolling through and watching scenes here and there of any number of movies at a time, all at the click of a button, the one thing that drives me nuts about Apple, and nearly every other digital service, is that they don't let you edit the "sort by" field for some insane reason when it comes to titles. So it's *too* alphabetical, to the point where you can't, say, group your Batman movies together how they should be grouped, the Mission: Impossible franchise is all out of order, none of the Bond movies are together, etc. And for a freak like me, it's so annoying it almost make me angry, to the point where I'm legit thinking about being one of those people who sends Apple a letter every single day until they fix it...

I decided that anything I really wanted I could buy later if I ever left AppleMusic. But now I doubt I ever do.

They made the Apple One offer too good - Premier covers all of my family (4 people) with
Apple TV+
Apple Music
Apple iCloud+ 2TB

I had TV+ ($5) and a small storage plan ($3) and the Music Family ($15) sub and I needed more storage, so it was going to be more than the $30 Apple One Premier sub if I upgraded to 2TB instead of just getting that.

And now I have these as well although I use them sparingly so far.
Apple Arcade
Apple News+
Apple Fitness+

So I think they've got me hooked in the ecosystem forever.

Agree with you there. Most have 3 sort choices: Recently Added, A-Z, or Release Date. It would be so nice to be able to arrange myself.

That is part of why I have that color coded spreadsheet - on there I have title grouped by the preferred title of the series. And at a glance I can see which platform it is on.

Agree about the sorting. Amazon Prime is awful in this regard, no sorting at all unless they have upgraded in the year+ since I started using AppleTV as my primary platform.

But as for a letter writing campaign, I would guess that whatever table structure they use to store title data likely does not include a field for franchise or similar. This is what would be needed to sort all your 007 movies in one group (then alpha by title or by release year, however you want). I figure these platforms won't consider that update a worthy one from a manpower (read, software engineer efforts $$$$$) perspective. Even though it would be a simple update.

FYI

Mission Impossible 6 movie bundle currently $24.99 in HDX or UHD. usually $69.99

on Vudu

Seems like a hell of a deal.

As you noted, Paramount doesn't do MA, you'd be stuck watching them only on Vudu.
