I don't count sequels as superhero movies. Nobody considers Godfather a superhero movie.

I also think we're stretching if we're including the Hangover in this same conversation.

Feels like Zorro spiritually counts and maybe literally counts.

Zorro have been in comic books since the 40s. That counts to me.

I think for me what this question is spiritually asking comes down to whether the franchise/IP was well known before the first movie came out or not.

Like for me Tom Cruise doesn't count, because Mission Impossible was already a thing before his first MI movie. Not as big of a thing, but a relatively well known thing, it was an established IP.

But that makes Harrison Ford tough, because he's in two mega-franchises, but they weren't established when he started. Neither Indiana Jones nor Star Wars was based on existing IP.

To me that's a more interesting discussion than just "who literally hasn't appeared in a superhero movie."

The rule is comic books. Not previously well known. Otherwise so many non-superhero movies would be bogusly declared superhero movies. Ben Hur, The Thing, The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Scarface. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Oceans Eleven, and many others were remakes of old movies. But none of those are "superhero movies".

What about superhero movies not based on comic books? Like say, Unbreakable/Split/Glass?

I'd say those still are based on comic books. Just not a particular one. They specifically reference comic book heros as a whole.

Originally I would have said if people have super powers. But that would exclude Batman and would include things like The Matrix. And what about really strong people? Or really smart? Is Jack Reacher a "superhero"? To me: hell no. So that's when I drew the comic book line. That seems to be more clear cut.

I'm not sure what our criteria is anymore (superheroes, comic books, sequels in IP).

There were robot super villains in Blade Runner 2049, and the original Blade Runner had a comic book adaption following the movie.

I guess that would nab Harrison Ford too.

I would not have ever thought of either of those. Howard the Duck was a long time ago and Green Lantern........just sucked.

Gosling is the big name that always jumps out when I think about A-listers who have avoided Superhero franchises. Considering his looks, stature, age, it's pretty impressive that he's passed on them up to this point as I'm sure he could have had just about any role he wanted the last ten years from DC or Marvel.

I think he said that Drive was his version of a super hero movie - although he did do Blade Runner but that was a pretty different big budget blockbuster. Personally, I'd love to see him in the MCU - although at this point I don't know who there's left for him to play. He'd be a great Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) but I'd wager confidently that he ain't touching DC... He also would've been a really good Barry Allen cuz he can do smartass really well. But instead we got International Terrorist - Ezra Miller.


Also pretty sure Hamm was cast as Mr. Sinister which got teased in one of the X Men movies. But I could be wrong.
