Have networks really run out of ideas? Just recycle old sht?
I get that it's hard to compete with entertainment on demand, but that means, if you're broadcast, you need to make content that people are compelled to tune into. Don't tell me this can't be done.
AMC did it with BB, TWD, BCS. HBO did it with GOTs
People will tune in for weekly released shows if the quality is there. Although they were at the start of the streaming era, I would argue Lost and Heroes were probably the last shows broadcast networks had gripped audiences for weekly consumption.
Maybe they have gotten burned too often by shows like Under the Dome and Jericho, but it really only takes one good show to buoy your reputation.
