This is his new stand-up special on Netflix. I really feel like this guy is one of the best comedians of his generation. Funny, topical, insightful. This short special was really good.

Watched it last night. So good. I just wish it was an hour long, as opposed to only thirty minutes, but definitely in agreement overall with everything you're saying.

Every time I see those little bottles martinelli's apple juice for sale all I can think of is that that scene in Master of None when he buys one for the chick after getting plan b.

Same thing with Vita Coco. Every time I see it at the grocery store, just reminds me of his apartment on Parks and Rec.

Saw him do this show live last weekend at the Anthem in DC. Its a very good set. Haven't had a chance to see the special yet, but I'm assuming its nearly identical material

Would y'all say you're fans of his other specials? I saw him live in ~2010 and loved it, but any specials I saw on Netflix in the last several years have been pretty bad IMO.

I don't get it. It's 30 min of him making fun of people who aren't vaxxed. Most importantly, he wasn't funny while doing it.

If you're bothered by comedians making jokes at or about vaccine status, I think the next year or two of standup will likely not be for you.

I think Aziz does a better job than most though of the idea of "can't we all just get along?"

A few good laughs, enjoyed it. Not as good as his other specials. 30 minutes felt about right.

I'm not saying he wasn't funny because he was making fun of non vaxxers. I'm saying he wasn't funny, and just talking about non vaxxers for 30 min made it even more boring.

Exactly. It was inevitable that a certain contingent would of course see this as being "pro-vaccine" (oh, the horror!), but I didn't get that vibe at all. It very much felt to me like him essentially saying, "Personally, I think getting the vaccine is the right thing to do, but let's chill with all hate toward those who don't." And I'm sorry, but the Aaron Rodgers bit was hilarious in that regard.

Did we watch the same thing regarding the bold part? If you thought this special was that hilarious and thought the bold part was part of the message, then maybe we didn't.

Aziz said almost these exact words.

As powerbelly just highlighted, Aziz literally said almost that exact same sentence. In fact, a good chunk of the show was him expressing empathy for *everyone* who gets caught in an information feedback loop, gets sucked down a rabbit hole, etc. He even made a point to emphasize that this happens to *both* sides. I mean, like, that was basically THE entire point of the special. How you missed that is beyond me.

So he makes fun of most anyone that doesn't want the vax - especially Aaron Rodgers which was one of the two chuckles I had - but let's all not hate on anyone that doesn't want it? Ok...

I'll stop, but I expected far more comedy from Aziz.

He obviously thinks people should get the vaccine. That much was clear.

He also thinks that a portion of the people who aren't are doing so for reasons that are due to misinformation/media manipulation/"their own research"/etc.

But he then caveats that by saying the exact same thing is clearly happening on the *other* side as well. And essentially comes to the conclusion that our addiction to our phones/Facebook/celebrity culture/etc are ruining all of us, and only furthering the divide (not a groundbreaking conclusion, I know, but still poignant in the way he delivers it with his brand of humor).

If you can't understand the nuance there - and see how he's not just "making fun of anyone who doesn't want the vax" - I don't know what to tell you.

There's really not a "misinterpretation of that". He directly said "maybe go click on some of the things the other side is clicking on". He's encouraging people to try to actively understand where people they disagree with are coming from.

Yep, I turned it off pretty early on. I am vaxxed, but the way people label their information as correct and anything they disagree with as "misinformation" is quite annoying. I guess I didn't get far enough into for him to do his "u-turn" you guys are mentioning.

I will watch this, but 2 questions:

Why only 30 minutes? That's not very common these days unless it's part of some other production, like "The Standups" or something.

The title - is that a nod to Norm Macdonald? He used that phrase a lot "I'm just a Nightclub Comedian"

It seemed very ad hoc. He clearly didn't have a full set, but had some good stuff. Almost like he had some coronavirus jokes that wouldn't hit if told next year and he didn't want them to go to waste.

That's kind of how I found it. Wasn't greased at all. Felt like it also could have been done to appease contract requirements with Netflix (pure speculation)

You must've watched something else. That part of the set was 5 minutes tops. Weird that you fixated on that.

liking it or not, seeing the younger pictures of him going to the same club were insane!

Ive seen all of Aziz's specials and they are jus ok. Hes not laugh out loud or anything, but hes always good for a few decent chuckles.

I thought it was hilarious, I wish it were longer. The Aaron Rodgers part was really funny.

I like Aziz but I thought this was pretty lackluster as far as comedy specials go. I liked the club atmosphere a lot, but the act itself left something to be desired in my opinion. They have a series called The Standups which features lesser known comedians that's much funnier.

I love Aziz. He could read the phone book and I'm laughing. But this 30 min special is 100% political. And of course the butt of all jokes are people who don't agree with the leftist point of view.

You'll love it if Aziz confirms all of your socially accepted beliefs about the "others". You'll be annoyed if you think unconventional about Covid, Trump or any issues of the day. There are scant few entertainers around anymore that think outside of the mainstream l. They know how to get paid and they do what is necessary. He's actually criticizing himself when he pretends to care about how so many are money and possession crazed. He's doing the same.
